Adding the GWR route from London Paddington to Penzance into the class 801/802 version could potentially increase the efficiency of the service. It could also provide more travel options for passengers and possibly boost tourism in the Penzance area.
London - Penzance is over 200 miles, that way to big unless they do it sections. Not to mention all the stations, scenery etc.
It is doable on TSC with the appropriate add ons but gets boring very quickly so a full run on TSW would be a no from me, particularly given the limitation of only one save slot in the game. I would kill for Exeter to Plymouth or Exeter to Kingswear in the 1950s though.
That's still is pretty long, 20+ stations across 110 miles. You have to remember, a lot of the time a routes length is determined by how much is in between as well. Making stations, trains and the over all scenery takes a long time and lots of effort. For example, Kassel - Würzburg is just over 100 miles, but there are only three stations on the route which make it much easier to build despite its length.
Plus very simple track layout and 50% of the mileage in long tunnels. Reading to Taunton would be nice especially if it included the Mendip Quarry Lines but timetable wise it’s just a basic hourly service end to end. You would need suitable stock for Reading to Newbury and Bedwyn, Westbury to Castle Cary and the Mendip Class 59s.
It’s a shame TSW is limited, while TSC isn’t. I would love to create this route when PC editor launches, if it is possible.
That was done in TSC right ? If it was set before 2015 using pacers/150/158/153 with FGW instead of GWR I’d buy. In TSC you have Penzance to both Paddington and Cardiff Via Bristol including Bicester Village Western Mainlines. Even though routes are shorter in TSW than TSC I would still rather TSW TSC was just too slow I can play on console much better
Tsw is limited how? Dtg have said there is no limit to how long a route could be, the only thing that's stopping you is how much time and effort you want to put in
I think the issue is more time and effort costs more and unless dlc price raises they can't afford to be funding it as they do need some profit. It can be frustrating but at least we are getting routes like ECML which is longer.
I was referring to the length of routes (TSW vs TSC). We’ve had 115 miles with Schnellfahrstrecke Kassel – Würzburg, so route lengths similar to the likes of Penzance to London Paddington could be a possibility. I hope so.
The only problem: the more stations you have to model (of which between Paddington and Penzance there are a lot, and some of them are very large) as well as scenery, which takes enough time on a short 30-40 mile route.
And as I already noted above, SKW is a route that spends at least 50% of its distance in long tunnels and aside from the three stations on the line has no complex track or big urban areas to represent. Still in just over two weeks, the public route editor will be available, so all those who feel a 300 mile route is a walk in the park can try for themselves. In fact, I have a feeling quite a few of us who have whined over the years, “Why did xxx route not go on to yyy”, could be eating a large dose of humble pie soon.
How come TSC get such long routes? Is that just cause they can connect them where as tsw can't or do dtg spend alot more time on TSC?
DTG instead of releasing two separate DLC could combine the work needed for two routes to create a much longer route - and maybe charge a slight premium for it. There are ways and means to do it. If the time and effort (and money) is invested to make longer routes, I’m sure players would welcome it.
It's because Tsc is a much easier game to develop content for, that goes for routes and trains, I believe Maik said awhile back that a Tsw train takes 10x longer to make then a Tsc train.
Some routes have been merged in TSC to make longer ones and, most critically, they do not come with a comprehensive all day timetable - 8 to 10 scenarios if you're lucky.
See, I’d have personally preferred Plymouth to Penzance but seeing as WCL has been done already might as well do St Austell to Plymouth and then just include branchlines (Looe Valley Line, Bodmin and Wenford and then the Fowey Branchline too). That would Easily make a great play. Can have an IET, Class 150 and Class 66 with CDA wagons. Layers for HST, Railtours and other bits blah blah blah…
Literally this. I wouldn’t mind paying a premium if we are getting long routes with branch lines and rolling stock, whether it is 10 or 15 more expensive, I don’t mind at all
I'd like this too but there is a huge caveat. Even if it could be made economically and to a good quality, that would naturally mean even fewer routes per year being released. Considering how varied the interests in the community are, that would be difficult. We already have wildly diverging interests on geography and period.
The more I read the OPs statements... the more confused I get. Like, what does this even mean?! And this bit.... this bit gets me. Travel options.... for passengers?! And boost... tourism?! Is... is this a request for a route? Or a sales pitch to GWR?
And as regards the 8xx class, I doubt anyone paying £100’s to take their family from London to Cornwall will be impressed by having to sit on rock hard seats for a 5 hour or thereabouts journey. HST please!
I refused to use the IETs when in cornwall waited for something else. Even decided to buy a day ticket on the Sleeper which was the best choice for comfort and haulage
And we're back to the start : 801s do not operate on this route. It is 800s and 802s on this route as 801s only operate on the ECML.
Yes, I know you know but I was meant to put an emotion (which will magically appear in a minute) to make it look as if we were back where we started. It was a bit of a joke not serious, I just forgot the emotion!
Having been on a class 800 myself. (With LNER at least.) The seats aren't all that bad. I think everyone just missed the hst's. Yes, you got better comfort on an hst but it's not horrible on an 8xx ethier
The seats on a 800 / 801 (LNER) are quite comfortable I think. Never got to ride a HST unfortunately so can't compare the seats.
In case you didn't realise Train Sim World is not real life people are only in game to get on the train, also a 200+ mile route is outlandish.
Go up to Scotland and try first class on an Inter7City. It's exact same comfort as GWR and it's amazing!
