Hello. I'm new to Train simulators and feeling a bit overwhelmed, so I was wondering if anyone can help me track down some routes, or direct me where to look to find routes im interested in exploring within train simulators. I have Trainz Simulator New Era and Train Simulator Classic and the routes im looking for are Amtrak's Sunset Limited Route https://vlc.onl, Amtrak's Coast Starlight Route. I know these are long routes so any part of it would be appreciated. Thank you!
For Sunset Limited Route i can think about TSC "Miami - West Palm Beach Route Add-On" Maybe check the US routes on Steam directly as there is simplier to see them than browsing all the 600 and more add ons.
That's a negative, the Sunset Limited runs from LA to New Orleans, and we have no route that covers that at all (Aside from LAUPT on Pacific Surfliner) The Coast Starlight however can be ran in decent length on the Mount Shasta Route, which covers Dunsmuir to Klammath Falls.
My bad, i was sure it was continuing up to Miami through Jacksonville, maybe it was the case in the past ? Thanks for correcting me
Used to till 2005, then it stopped due to Hurricane Katrina. I think Amtrak and CSX are currently arguing about restoring service in that area though.
Have a look at this map as it shows which routes around the world are in Train Simulator Classic http://umap.openstreetmap.fr/en/map/train-simulator-classic_252726#5/38.976/-93.472 Which for the US is not very much
Useful link Pete, bookmarked. Strange to see the huge gaps even after all this time no commercial routes in Sweden or Norway which puts into perspective the requests which keep getting posted in TSW Suggestions for Scandinavian routes. Poor old Australia has none, with just the (excellent) Midland Line to represent NZ.
Don't forget the Netherlands. They have a huge community of their own with freeware routes, and they all appear on this map, but nothing official. Most of DTG's own content is from three specific countries, and much of what's outside - whether on Steam or not - is third party. There may be the odd exception for the other countries, and obviously third party does stuff from the three main countries as well.
That is a great idea. Thanks for pointing it out Peter and thanks to whoever put it together. Is there any way to contribute? I noticed a couple of omissions at first glance. - NS Coal District (from Steam oddly enough) - Fraser and Caribou (an older route only available from Milepost's website) It also shows the huge hole in eastern Canadian operations. Toronto is the biggest city in Canada, but nothing in TSC. I guess we have the scenic side on the west coast
It's actually not an old idea. I've been using it since 2020, myself. Fantastic resource, but I also use the OpenRailWay map to see all train routes and have an understanding of the areas around me as I drive. Also a fantastic resource for different reasons. I do remember one time looking at the Umap, though, and noticing someone trying to redraw one of the Just Trains routes. A random line crossed the map for Western Mainlines.
Eastern Europe is another blank area on the map for DTG and yet Czech and Slovak developers are superb craftsmen. Bloodied on MSTS some of which has been ported they, as do Scandinavians, have to develop almost everything except grass! I am currently dabbling in a few Czech routes. Locos, coaches and wagons both standard and narrow gauge are available and are very good. The language is an issue but not insurmountable and it is all free (some donations requested but not compulsory). In Norway we have OldVern’s own Sulitjelma to which I have added some timber loading sidings, a dockside, a quarry and Norwegian signals. Swedish routes are also available but tend to be incomplete (loss of interest perhaps). Scandinavian locos and rolling stock is out there, most of it freeware. The Dutch have the superb Chris Trains as their champion but he is not alone. In this country we mither about a class 165/166’s quality, we are actually very well provided for compared to many.
