Hello everyone, As many of you have probably heard already, ex Louisiana and Arkansas Railroad 4-6-0 #503 is on display in Port Arthur, TX. And the city wants to get rid of it. So a scrapper currently has ownership of her and plans to scrap it on Wednesday of this week! Thankfully, noted rail preservationist Jason Sobczynski has started a GoFundMe campaign to save the engine from the park. However, they need to raise $50,000 before the engine is scheduled to be scrapped. From recent inspections, they have found that the engine is in decent shape and is a possible candidate for restoration to operation. And the group even has a set future for the engine! 1) Once/if the engine makes it out of the park, it will be taken to Rusk, TX. Home of the Texas State Railroad. It will sit there for storage for a little while. 2) The engine will then be taken to the Royal Palm Railway Experience near Orlando, FL. Where the railroad plans to restore and maintain the locomotive. However, before any of this can happen, the engine has to be moved. And the friends of the L&A 503 can't do it alone.
