We need random events, rare chances for an air hose to break and the train goes into emergency. If you notch up too fast you can break a knuckle. Make defect detectors work etc. we just need stuff that’s more exciting. I’ll run a route once or twice then not run it for awhile. It sucks that the only thing I gotta worry about is speed and an alerter. Having random events that could cause an emergency application such as (air hose disconnection, knuckle breaking if you throttle up too fast and stretch the train out, etc) also…Multiplayer! It was promised ages ago and all that we heard last was “let’s wait for more routes” …I think the time has come we get to play with other players. I cannot afford to desktop or laptop play Run8 so having the TSW Multiplayer promise finally come to us would be nice. It could be a paid for beta. We the players pay $10-20 one time only fee to beta test the multiplayer and relay glitches and kinks in the system to help it out. It would be private servers to avoid trolls and the dispatcher would be human controlled instead of AI so we could put trains in the siding if need be. When you spawn into the server the server owner/co owner etc can spawn trains as need be and if the servers can hold enough players (a good number I’d say is 20, you gotta remember freight trains have two crew members at least and Amtrak has one crew in the cab + the conductor in the passenger cars) then a discord can be made to run a public/private server once MP is fully out. The owner will have the ability to fly around the map and use commands such as kicking trolls and banning trolls from the server. Multiplayer would bring lots of fun to TSW with players doing realistic operations such as (freight conductor duties. Dispatcher duties, local freight crews, Amtrak passengers runs with the conductor player using the brand new check ticket method and if the ticket is wrong he’d relay to the engineer player that at the next stop a passenger would be getting off etc) there is really so so so much potential to add more stuff to service mode runs to make it more challenging besides rain and a alerter…let’s get some new fun stuff! Comment below your ideas and what you would think would give us a better challenge
Multiplayer should be a membership rather than a one time purchase, and i think it would be better considering $10-$20 one time would be very cheap, as having multiplayer would probably cost a lot of resources, time and effort to implement. Maybe $5 a month for $60 a year total. Its probably also not gonna happen anytime soon.
+1 Tried MP in Run 8, it was basically a good ol’ boys club not helped by the UK/US time difference. People chatting, I tried to say something and got blanked. Later, came back to find the train I parked up off the mains at Bakersfield with a note to leave it there for me, had been deleted. Tried MP in SimRail. You end up driving the same stretch of line depending what train you can actually get on. Not a coherent joined up experience. Once the griefers and anarchists got in disrupting sessions I was out of there. Other than being a social chat room MP doesn’t really serve much purpose on a train sim, IMHO. Even if you have players handling the signalling, as we see on SimRail all too easy to get stuck with someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing, or deliberately start disrupting things. You only have to look at some of the issues that have occurred on the forums with disruptive influences, particularly when the moderation is part time at weekends, to see the mindset that would go in and wreck MP. Away from train sims, Elite Dangerous also brought out the worst in multiplayer even making national news when one high profile event for a good cause was massively disrupted by malevolent players.
Agreed. I don't see anything MMO work. Private lobbies with a handful of players might work on smaller routes like West Somerset Railway, which would require co-operation even with just a handful of people. Especially if there'd be a dedicated guard mode, you could set up a small handful of people to crew a single train. But anything bigger, especially something that's open for everyone to join in a MMO-alike setting, I don't see it work. It'd require a full crew of dedicated professionals to make it work like it'd work in real life. And I certainly won't be paying a monthly subscription for such a feature. Or any other feature for that matter. I've stepped away from any subscription-based games, not going back there.
The other issue with MMO is that the AI functions need to be able to take over and emulate exactly and seamlessly what the human players are doing, otherwise if someone leaves the server or has their connection drop likely to disrupt things royally.
I’d take whichever option where they actually work, we’ve had and still have both options depending on the train, barely any seem to work.
Multiplayer in Trainz is usually a warzone! If multiplayer in TSW was moderated than that could work.
