Working through my marathon alphabetical route order play through currently on “B” and arrived at Bernina Line, doing a run from St Moritz to Poschiavo which threw up a request stop at Morteratsch. Stopped, hit “T” obviously no loading bar so after a few seconds released the brakes and started off, only to get “Game Over” for moving the train with a door open. So a couple of questions… Will the doors close eventually and after how long? Can you just stop and not activate the doors? Is there an undocumented command to close the doors? Can you just ignore the stop request altogether?
Not sure how it’s set up but certain stations on Bernina and Arosa too I think have a random chance of generating a request stop. On Bernina if someone on board wants to alight, you get a “gong” sound in the cab with a H lamp illuminated on the desk. If someone wishes to join they push a plunger on the platform which causes a signal with two horizontal white lights positioned on approach, to flash. So I understand the mechanics of the advice system but managing the actual station call seems the tricky part.
Once again.... mmm.... that's a pretty cool feature, but not of much use if the users aren't informed of how it works and how to deal with it. Is there a manual included with the route?
The mechanics of how you get advised are covered in the manual but not how you manage the doors. There is reference to, “You must open at least one door on the Allegra”, but this scenario uses the older Railcars hauling a rake of BEX coaches. Nor does it state if there are any penalties for failing to make the stop. Potential application for the UK if someone ever did a route like Central Wales, though that relies on passengers waiting for the train putting their arm out like hailing a bus, or for someone on board the Guard giving one on the buzzer (or no Traction Inspector about) opening the cab door and verbally telling the Driver.
You just wait for the doors to close, they will close after a certain time, not sure exactly how long but it wasnt an unreasonable amount of time from memory. Went for a bit of a Swiss bash just recently, thoroughly enjoyed the network Rivet / Thomson have put together there
Thanks Bekns, I’ll do so later on. And yes, Rivet do seem to have made a better job of it in TSC than they have done so far in TSW. The only thing I do find with the Railcars is the acceleration rather quick and snatchy, even with a rake of 5 or 6 coaches behind.
Yeah I just assumed they were way overpowered considering they are dealing with upto 7% grade but tbh I wouldnt have a clue if that is accurate or not
I suspect it s a Rivet physics anomaly. I know the throttle on these units serves as a speed setter (at least climbing or on the level) but my own experience of travelling on those trains is that while swift, the railcars didn't accelerate from 0 - 60 km/h in a few seconds. T
Normally when you release the train Doors you get the Red Line in the F3 Hud. After the Doors have closed the F3 Hud tells you where to stop.
I tend to use the F4 rather than F3, but I’ll give that a shot, or just mosey round in external view and see the doors have closed. Anecdotally, request stops add to the long list of things TSC can do that TSW cannot. They admitted apparently in a recent stream that they don’t know how to implement the feature in TSW.
Been playing train sims for over 25 years so think I understand the basics by now! My question did relate specifically to Bernina Line in TSC so not sure where the broader picture comes in. And yes, spamming F2 prior to a tricky situation is second nature...
Update: It’s working now. Had two request stops so far, as suggested T to open doors and after about 20 to 25 seconds they close again and on the way you go.
The red line only appears if it is a set task in the scenario editor, the request stops on these routes have been set up to be random so they are not a set task and hence no red line. It is quite a nice touch really but my only gripe is with loco only pulling freight only, some hobo keeps sounding the gong wanting to get off. That makes sense, one of these days if I can drag my behind out of Western Australia it will be on my to-do list for sure
Exactly! You would have to have to be playing a very insular game not to know the purpose of the red line and frankly it was a bit patronising of 749006 to “explain” it defines the duration of the station duties or objective progress. Anyhow not to worry, the concept is good fun and adds some much needed randomness to the game.
It was not Patronising!!! I was explaining how it works on normal routes without Request Stops. You even agreed with what I said If you think that anything I say is having a go at you then I won't bother again Go Figure - it out for yourself
Also you do not always get a stop request, there are paltforms marked with an "H", at these you stop if there are people at the platform as these do not have the electronic stop request.
Certainly good fun and Peter I apologise for my grouchiness earlier... Finished the run and had a request stop at the station before Poschiavo which is unremittingly on the 7% down gradient. Interesting! Anyhow my A to Z run through of TSC has now moved to Birmingham Cross City, so a quite different challenge of keeping to time with the one handled Class 323...
The B&O Kingwood Branch route also has "flag stops", though I think they've achieved it on this route simply by making the "stop at X" instructions hidden from the task list
