I would like to have the option, if a player so chooses to have the map view to look more like a map with rivers, cities, mountains and so on to help bring the experience more to life. With the traditional map view the game has it is somewhat sterile and gives little indication why the route is geographically the way it is. Off course usability to perform task as moving switches needs to be maintained.
In a stream not too long ago it was said that they're thinking about making changes to the maps including names at stations, yards, certain track and river/bridges. But it seems to be way more complicated than one should think. It's being looked into, but there's nothing concrete to announce yet. Also, not on the roadmap (yet)
