I was interested in expanding on the games Racetrack route: Aurora to Chicago. This would be done by including other Metra routes that go into Chicago's Union Station. Could the game handle multiple rail lines (each aprox. 35 miles of track) going north, south and west on the same map? I understand splitting up the routes into different map would help with game performance. However, some of these lines in the Chicago land area cross over each other and it would be cool to have them all running in the same game. Is their a total track length the game can handle or density of game assets? Does a route file have a max file size? I have included a map of Metra's lines to better explain what I am trying to do.
Yeah, I think you could fit all this in, There are much bigger longer routes in TSC that are as long as the entire Metra Network. So I dont see it being a problem. This would be actually nice to have. Make sure to Include South Shore and the CTA L.
The main issue with huge route networks has a lot less to do with what the game can handle and a lot more to do with the sheer amount of time needed to create such a network. Read the content creator's section of any TSC web forum and you will find it littered with threads announcing extravagant projects, which then peter out as the enthusiasm for the more tedious aspects of route creation wane. I don't mean to be discouraging, and some ambitious projects absolutely do come to fruition, but it is highly advisable to start with modest goals that can be achieved in a reasonable time frame before worrying about creating a mega-route that will push the program beyond its limits.
What rolling stock would you proposed be used for those? Closest looking train in the game to the South Shore one I think would be the Comet V cab car on the north jersey coast line
Your right, the whole project would be over 450 miles of track once its all laid out. Not to mention all the scenery to. I have friends that would be willing to help as well as the google maps overlay for the build feature. I'll probably start with the smaller lines and go from there.
Yeah, They look pretty close, It would be better if we could get the schematics of the South Shore Stock. Its starnge that nobody has made any.
