These are some really lovely shots indeed. I’m currently on a holiday to the UK and did lots of amazing trips inspired by TSW. From our “base” in London we went to: West Somerset Railway Isle of Wight Brighton and Seaford Althorp Estate In London, we also visited the Formula E race and did a city day with lots of Bakerloo line action. We’re going to Edinburgh tomorrow (by rail of course!) and will be going from there to Glasgow and back on the day after. As you can see, TSW has certainly inspired our holiday plans! Mostly because I like to research the routes I play and thus found tons of places I wanted to visit for real. I’ll perhaps open a similar thread after the trip is done and post highlights from each day in there.
Are you going on the ECML up to Edinburgh. I would presume so but some folk do, rather foolishly, use the WCML to get there.
Make sure you take the route via Falkirk High to Glasgow Queen Street! If you can I highly recommend getting the train to Largs/Ayr when your in Glasgow if you have time! Very coastal line! Also my local! If you'd prefer a ride aboard a 385 then I recommend the Inverclyde line. Very coastal. You can visit Port Glasgow as well where Caledonian MacBrayne make their ferry's for Scotland! Or you can buy a roundabout ticket and get a day's access to the Cathcart circle + Subway access!
No you get to ride on an Azuma instead, and I have heard that ECML drivers are very efficient, kind and among the best in the country.
True. But. The seats on an azuma are not nearly as nice. Sure, the staff are great! Food is served every minute, train sounds nice, train is fast, but if you want comfort I'd go for WCML.
I don't know, I went on a Pendo once and came off with the most remarkable backache. Yes, you can't get off one of our trains without your stomach being full! Also I must agree I like the sound of all the Hitachis including the 385s as well. They are very fast! I remember when there were still HSTs around I went up on a HST and then brought an Azuma back, it was like a rocket! The last comment is just false so I'll just ignore it!
Lol. Have to tried the refurbished pendo? It might be more comfortable since you last tried it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Thanks for all the tips, guys! We just arrived in Edinburgh, had a very smooth and quick ride aboard the LNER Azuma. Getting to see Darlington station from the Tees Valley Line DLC on the way was a nice bonus. We only have two nights here before we need to head back to Germany, but are planning a day trip to Glasgow tomorrow and will be exploring central Edinburgh for the rest of today. These BritRail passes we bought are really paying off. Can just hop on any train at any time, and free reservations are available for the longer journeys (like the Azuma to Edinburgh). So cool!
Very nice! Glad you enjoyed your trip! Keep us posted! Can't wait to see what you get up to in Glasgow!
Today I'm off to Wemyss Bay, Voted the most beautiful station in the UK. Our traction today will ethier be a Class 318 or a Class 385! We'll have to wait and see which it is... Once we pull into Wemyss Bay we will board the Caledonian MacBrayne vessel MV Bute for our journey along to the island of Rothesay. We will be on the island for most of the afternoon before returning home into Glasgow for about 5 o'clock. Can't wait to share my photos here!
Final Page of Photo Highlights: (You can see here Glasgow Central was very busy! This was due to the world cycling championship taking place here at the time)
I you think they look good wait til you hear the irl sounds for them. On the way home yesterday I was right above the traction motors and it sounded AMAZING! You could practically feel the change at 20mph through you bones! Would recommend! (WARNING: IRON BOARD SEATS!)
If they sound anything like the 80xs that would be great! I genuinely don't mind the ironing board seats too much either.
Yea same. And tbh it was only an hour journey so not that bad. I've been on those seats for 4 hours up the west highland line so I'm used to it. They sound alot like the 80x except with a slight difference. Listen to these:
I see what you mean, they are similar, but different and actually both rather nice sounding. Thanks for finding those videos mate!
Yes, Rivet had done quite an appalling job recreating those sounds. I use recreating very loosely as well.
Some screen grabs from vids I took: MV Isle of Lewis getting services at Port Glasgow Class 385 going through Glasgow Junction Wemyss Bay Station Architecture (made by James Miller in 1901)
Update from me: Back home now! Went to Glasgow via Falkirk High on Thursday, great views out the windows! Got some more Edinburgh sightseeing in on Friday before taking the tram back to Edinburgh Airport and flying to Germany via Brussels. I’ve got to say I’m very excited for the Edinburgh-Glasgow DLC now (which I’ll probably buy within the next few days), having been on the route in both directions, explored both of the terminus stations and taken the tram. In other news, I spontaneously found out about a severe PS5 discount in Germany yesterday and promptly bought one at the local electronics shop. Setup and data transfer was very smooth, and TSW3 truly looks incredible even on my Full HD tv. It’s a huge step up from my ancient PS4, and I’ve now got lots of new layers to explore, some of which I’ve been waiting for 2.5 years to use! Went for a ride on London Commuter in the evening, and seeing more than just the Electrostars for the first time was truly amazing. The textures, the colors, the stability… everything was so much better. And I could actually hear the running sounds because my PS4 cooling fan was no longer going off like a jet plane!
Onboard class 380/0 to Glasgow Central. Only complaint is that someone was sick next to my seat and that the world cycling championships are on so Glasgow will be very busy.
One of my latest liveries: Scotrail Inter7City on a 4 car GWR HST I used the 4 car GWR HST because ScotRail got their HST's from GWR and usually only use them in 4/5 car sets.
Hello! Today is a big day! Today I will be taking the Glasgow to Edinburgh via Falkirk high line to Edinburgh where I'll see some InterCity HST's, Cross Country HST's, Class 37's, lots of azumas and maybe even a steam train! Then I'll be heading off to Inverkeithing going over the Forth Rail Bridge on ethier a Class 158 or a Class 170. Apon arrival from Inverkeithing I'll then get the 12:00pm LNER Azuma service to Edinburgh! It's my first ride on any LNER train so I can't wait! I'll be sending lots of photos here. Fingers crossed the weather's nice!
En route to the my Capital City! (Edinburgh) Traveling in first class onboard the 09:00am express class 385 service!
So, I'll tell you what happened before I upload the photos: Arrived on time at Edinburgh Waverley. After 15 minutes of searching I finally found the station reception and got a platform pass. I then proceeded to Platform 2 where the Royal Scotsman was waiting. Got a vid of that leaving and a wave from the driver. I then went up to the north platforms and got a tone of a 385. I then went to the south platforms and saw 3 azumas next to eachother!! While I was standing there the train manager one of them came over to me and gave me some free snacks: a bottle of water, some crisps, a brownie and some rock. Very nice guy. If you're are on these forums, thanks! Then I headed off to get my class 170 and 158 pair to Inverkeithing. I got on the 170 as the class 158 looked busy. We had a very comfortable journey and got some amazing views over the Forth Bridge. We arrived at Inverkeithing and I got a tone of the driver of the 170! (I jumped out my skin! XD) We then waited for the delayed 12:10 LNER service to London and we got on it to Edinburgh. It was very busy and we only got a seat at Haymarket (wich was kinda pointless at the point but I needed a rest.) When we got to Edinburgh we had lunch (I got a sub) and then I went back to the platforms. I saw the LNER class 801 century edition and the royal Scotsman came back! When the royal Scotsman came back the driver was very nice and gave me a tour of the cab! Sadly I wasn't allowed to take any photos tho. After that I went of and got my 14:15 service back home to Glasgow Queen, settling into first class with me freebies from LNER. Had a brilliant day out today! Hope you enjoy the photos!

Yea! It was absolutely hellfire! Love cabbing the Scotsman! Driver was talking to me about how his son plays train simulators and it's quite different to how it is in real life. He gave me a tour and showed me the engine room and how to set up the train length system. He told me about the various problems you could encounter and I even got a chance to tell him about TSW (dtg you owe me for advertising, lol) he was a very nice guy and I was so pleased to get in the cab of a shed!
