Here's Train Simulator yet to be merged with Train Sim World 2 to become Train Simulator World. It would use the recycled route add-on's and rolling stock. It would be for PS4, Xbox One, Xbox X Series and Series S, PS5, and Xbox Cloud.

I won't say it can't happen but it won't happen.

NO Thank you. I own TSW and choose NOT to use it as I still dislike it. I bought TS2016, then TS2014 and 2015 plus others since. I have 9000 hours of TS20XX, sorry Classic and about 5 hours of TSW, does that tell you something?

Won't happen, as there is not a single piece of compatibility between those games. So everything must be redeveloped from scratch.

In terms of devs developing content for TSW that is already available for TSC, that's another thing. There are technical restrictions in UnrealEngine4 that do not allow for long routes, that's one thing for example, because it is originally an FPS engine with large, but still limited map size.

Nope. That was disproven years ago. There is no technical reason for no long routes, it is an intentional choice based on the extra time required to develop routes and the lack of return on investment.

Same reason as to why they won't merge routes with common stations so players have to start another service on another DLC to continue from the place they arrived at minutes earlier.

Not really, unless Matt or other staff have revealed more. While there is the question of if there's a business case, DTG would want to implement and 'pick 'n mix' function for it so if we owned either route we'd get it as if it was by itself, but if we got the other part it would attach on.

A technical issue is also timetables, as they would need significant work. Route extensions are possible and have happened, but were discarded as a type of DLC as it requires another purchase t work, effectively limiting the possible purchases to a small number of owners of the original. It's considered by DTG as even worse than train DLCs, which have the same issue but can be used on other routes as well, making them better purchases - although DTG seem to be paying less attention to train DLCs now.

The idea to merge TSW with TS doesn't sound far-fetched, but from a technical point of view it isn't possible. Because of the two different game engines for each simulator. The TS core engine is about 12 years old and didn't use the latest graphic drivers, because they are not implemented. Rewriting the engine would also be too much programming work. On the other hand TSW based on the UE4 engine, which uses the latest graphics and has much more tools to offer for further programming. In addition, console implementations can also be realized very well with UE4, which dramatically increases the range of players. But every DLC which was originally developed for the TS will make the leap into TSW one way or the other. So DTG has a great pool of already finished 3D train models and routes, but there won't be a quick implementation soon. Everything has to be adjusted in UE4 and that also means a lot of work to do...

Saying that all content from TS will make it into TSW is unrealistic at best. Train models need to be rebuilt completely for a reasonable quality because of the higher standards for models and the simple fact more needs to be modelled, as the interiors of trains need to be modelled fully. Equally, assets made for TS look terrible in TSW. Things like the Kuju white van look completely out of place in TSW and routes like South Eastern High Speed borrows significant amounts of major assets from TS, and they look appalling and are one of the reasons it is among the worst routes ever made for the game.

Porting TS assets and trains to TSW has been done before and is still happening (the new Jubilee is actually a Bossman games model already released for TS, just upgraded). The quality concern is only getting bigger and this behaviour should not be reinforced.

But, TS Classic isn't on console so how can the two Simulators be merged onto XBox and Playstation?

...I didn't mean that every DLC, what was ever made for the TS, will be implemented for TSW in the future. It is way too much and way too different quality standards, that's right. Older TS models in particular need a lot of upgrades first, but current things (freshly developed) look very detailed and, in addition to the simugraph driving physics and sound implementation, only new materials and shaders are needed. At least that's my external assessment. In any case, you can build on the TS stuff and you don't have to start from scratch again...

Frankly I don’t care what they do with TSW (including scrapping it) but I do very much care about TS Classic as I (and many others) have a very heavy financial and creative investment.

With the metro north Hudson line on train simulator that route would definitely work great to TSW 2.

No, no, JUST NO! It's already bad enough that COD Modern Warfare was merged with Warzone, Black Ops Cold War, and freaking Vanguard. No merging of TSW 2 and Train Simulator Classic will take place! Sorry, but that is NOT something I EVER want to see in my lifetime. I like Train Simulator Classic and TSW 2 the way they are. I do NOT EVER want to wake up to TSW 2 and TSC having been merged because someone asked for it! That's the worst thing that could ever happen.

Oh God I did it again. I am terribly sorry, but hearing that suggestion sent me into panic mode. I can handle TSW 2 and TSC separately, but merging both games together is a big NO and will most likely break both games. That's like trying to Merge Call of Duty with Battlefield. Sure, the idea is there and it would be acceptable and possible if a new titled was developed by both devs, but to merge two games that don't have the compatibility to tolerate each other is a bad move. Plus, both have different graphics and because TSW 2 is far more demanding in performance and graphics, you're not ever going to see both games merge. It's just not possible. It was tried with recent Call of Duty games, but ended up being a total disaster since none of the games were really compatible with each other from the start. It resulted in annoying bugs and glitches. It's just something that should have never happened. I can't imagine going through that again. I can never go through that again. They're also both different games and built on different engines, so both do not have the compatibility for a merger. It's like asking SP to merge with BNSF. Again, the potential's there, but what will the results be? It's not a simple 1, 2, 3 thing. That requires a lot of work and multiple tests to see if both games could tolerate each other. Plus, one is restricted to PC for obvious reasons. There are some, maybe even many games that can be successfully ported to Consoles (Xbox and PS), but TSC just isn't one of those games because of how much content the game has, the fact it uses an old engine, and the fact that it uses too many functions that consoles couldn't process.

All I see from the OP is yet another different angle on crying because TSC has more content than their beloved TSW, well yeah obviously... It's been around since 2009 it is open to modding so people can cut their teeth on small modding ventures at first, a bit of reskinning, moving a few assets about on a map, adjusting some script files and before you know it you've got talented independent devs creating high quality payware content.

Will TSW ever get to this stage? No, I truly don't think TSW will ever grow and mature the way TSC has, it is too controlled and limited by the very thing it's trying to be, an encapsulated closed development game (yes game not Sim), I'm (for once) not having a dig at TSW because TSW is what it is, what needs to change is the notion that it's fanbase has that it is/will be a direct and absolute replacement for TSC, it won't, it can't even begin to compete, DTG know this and that is exactly why it is and always will be an encapsulated closed development game for consoles that also happens to be available on PC.

Sorry, seeing this thread was one of my worst fears. After what I went through with Modern Warfare, BOCW, and Vanguard, I never wanted to see another video game merger again. The only exception would be if devs from the Battlefield and Call Of Duty Franchise made a new title using mechanics from recent and popular titles from their popular game franchises. That would be the only time I'd accept a merger. Other than that, TSW 2 and TSC are to stay separate. God knows what would happen if the two games merged. Horrible bugs and glitches. Horrible performance, and even worse, overpriced dlcs and shorter routes.

TSW and TSW 2 can NEVER replace TSC. TSC will always be favored by most Tsim fans over TSW. TSW has pleasant graphics and all that, but TSC has more content that you can interact with more than you could in TSW. Also, because of limitations with TSW, you can't create custom routes, you can't have the infinite freedom you have in TSC, and also, while not necessarily a big deal, you can't have more than 50 cars on console, and 105 cars on PC when in TSC, you could have as many cars as your PC and the game itself are willing to handle. Again, idk what other people are feeling, but I sure as hell know that I refuse to even accept a thread like this. Mergers of ANY video games aren't great, especially when the video games in question are no different from each other. One may have differences and so may the other one, but they're both in the same genre and serve the same purpose, yet they can't tolerate one another as they function differently. Idk how OP thought this was a pleasant idea to bring up, but it's far from even tolerable. I do admire OP's creative thinking and very interesting idea, but I do NOT admire OP's wanting to merge two games that function differently, together. It's just not possible. The potential isn't even there as far as I know. Plus, TSW doesn't have the freedom that TSC has anyway, so while it is a pretty interesting hobby if you happen to want to get away from TSC for a bit and try something new, it's not really entertaining forever. I prefer TSC over TSW. TSW doesn't even have that many interesting dlcs. Personally, the dlcs I always wanted to purchase for TSW 2 were Canadian Oakville Sub, Cane Creek, and Sherman Hill. But those dlcs don't really have that many locomotives to play around with. Like the Norfolk Southern Horseshoe Curve route. Sure it has two locomotives to play with, but only two. Not three or four. In order to really enjoy TSW and TSW2, you have to buy multiple dlcs to really 100% enjoy it. Even then the fun may die down. And look at how we go from TSW to TSW 2. A sequel that came not long after TSW. TSW was good absolutely, but when TSW 2 came out, it was "Meh" at best. And remember the Cane Creek route? I have NOT bought it, but I wanted to, specifically because of the rollingstock. That's right, you heard me. I gave zero French Pickles about the Locos even though I did take a particular liking to the SD40-2. I just wanted to play around the rollingstock. Hell, we don't even get too much US rollingstock in TSC. There's literally only a handful of Aggregates and they're practically similar models, just different repaints. What about the aggregates one can acquire in Trainz 2019 via third-party content freeware and download station stuff? Why don't we have those in TSC? Well anyone can answer that question anyone feels up to it, but regardless, TSW 2 just lacks content and still, TSC can never be replaced because of how fun it is. It's not just about quality dlcs, it's also about what one can do with TSC dlcs regardless of how inaccurate they are. I stopped complaining about dlcs because it's a waste of time and an awesome and new dlc was released recently. Didn't buy it but will sometime soon becuase it really caught my eye on how well it was made.

tl:dr, Train Simulator Classic can never be replaced, even by Train Sim World and Train Sim World 2. TSC is too good to be replaced by another sim that lacks content.

While I will continue to say there are advantages to TSW, which is objectively true, I have to say there is a huge amount of variety. Of course, a game from 2007 with basically no rules for what can be made will have that. Ironically, one of TS' largest criticisms is its amount of DLC - outsiders cringing at the amount of DLC just on Steam aside - is one of its largest benefits. There are problems, such as the ageing of content, the lack of consistency and the talented independent developers you mention having questionable quality sometime (AP has been on a downward spiral recently) but generally I prefer more rather than less.

Its a wonderful suggestion but as a developer myself I know that its practically impossible, when I say impossible I'm referring to the idea of it being a plausible reality. TS doesn't have a physics engine as such, not when comparing to TSW so the art of TS is using script, Animation, Sound etc to simulate things in a more physical sense. For example, your particles you add velocity and gravity numbers to simulate its appearance rather than the world know what gravity is. So that as a backbone you can see all the hundreds of individual features that DTG and 3rd Parties have implemented over the years and its clear there is no consistency. Consistency runs through model quality, sounds, particles, features and everything in-between, so for every element that is sub-par standard it would have to be remade and then its very clear that in relation to your question that you'd have to make them from scratch to begin with so when it comes to an efficient use of time its better to open a blank project and model from the ground up rather than individually improve components of that particular model for example. Even the highest quality models such as BMG's Jubilee needed a lot of work to be at the level of TSW2 quality. I think its easier for people to accept that these are 2 different generational games that will never be linked rather than try to link them. I personally love TSW more than TS and that for me is a sound based opinion, I like sounds and the overwhelming amount of DLC for TS and the 10+ years of improvement has lead to the most inconsistent DLC on offer to TS players, whereas the preservation team on TSW2 actively keep TSW2 content at its highest level

It has been posted before but it is worth noting that there is something wrong when TSW items are discounted by 75%+ in sales and the “antique” TS20XX/Classic items have never been at that discount.

I wouldn't say the word "wrong" because its simply marketing and standard tactics. The analytics show that TS still has the same player base as it once had and as much as TSW continues and content its being made its still playing catch up. I mean 10+ years worth of catch up is a lot, that being said DTG probably earn more money from TSW than TS and when you see what the features and capabilities TSW can open up to in the future it makes sense financially to keep teasing old players of TS with discounts to jump onboard the TSW train, i mean at the end of the day its not one or the other as its been established that these are two entirely different games but at least they keep having discounts to get new players onboard, though it don't think TS has any more or less in terms of discounts I have noticed that the those discounts for TS don't extend to the entire back catalogue whereas TSW discounts tend to cover all DLC - recently released aside

This will not work since TSW 2 is in UE 4.26 post-2021 Summer Update while TSC is in Kuju Railworks Engine.

Playing more TSC than TSW at present, certainly some elements of the latter would be nice in the former. Mainly I would say the ability to plan an extended timetable, though this would require a complete revamp of the current scenario editor. You would need to add a 2D consist builder and the ability to spawn trains at a certain time rather than have them all pre placed. Not bothered about walking around but the ability to finish one run then jump across to the next, with delays accumulating changing how the plan works out would be great.

Come on DTG, give TSC a little bit of love.

If Train Simulator Classic comes out for PS4 and Xbox One it would have the upgraded engine.
