Has anyone seen in the Standard Scenario section, for some work shop items, the description of the scenario is sometimes a mess of characters. These are all downloads from the steam workshop. Some scenarios I play, I can't make out what is in the description as the characters are jumbled. If there is a fix for this, please let me know. Below are 2 examples of what I am describing.
I could try that too but wanted to see if anyone on the forums has experienced this as well. It seems this recently happened after one of the core TSC updates, maybe something to do with version 77.6 or the build before it
Use TS Tools to look at the Scenario and see what is in the Display Work Order information - might be correct or not.
It is the forever old workshop extractor problem. I'm reporting it for nearly 10 years. When it extracts multiple files in one session, after a very small number of successful ones it starts generating garbage. Occasionally none are successful. At worst it creates a situation where the game crashes on load forever. Slightly better when it does so in the menus. Slightly better when it doesn't, you just see these problematic messages, but it references rolling stock that doesn't exist, like the E'tabD SD434435 243542afed524M. Sometimes it simply reverts your scenario and weather from season 48438543 and weather 9834589345 to 1. Even funnier when the randomized value is valid, so your standard scenario ends up career or free roam. I'm not sure but I may even have scenarios moved between routes, because the first few numbers (1, 2, ...) are valid route IDs (Oxford-Paddington, etc.) There are two and a half workarounds. Which one is the half, up to you You subscribe multiple, let it extract, run some validator, delete the bad ones, game will try again. Unless you end up in a loop (I did once), eventually fine. What I do is have a peek at the scenario I've queued up, if the ScenarioProperties.xml looks broken (wrong line breaks), I just delete and let it extract again. Grand total once I actually had the .bin broken. Maybe twice. Beyond fatal when it happens to routes. You subscribe one at a time (run game after each sub). And-or you can use the new Steam local workshop manager to achieve the same. You subscribe multiple, extract the zips yourself, then unsub.
