Wikipedia Article This is the Metro Praha, the oldest, largest and only subway system in Czechia. The system has only three lines, but with around 2 million passengers per day, it is one of the busiest subway systems in Europe. The deepest station on the network is Náměstí Míru (Peace Square) which lies 53m below the surface, which is the second deepest subway station in the European Union. Similarly to London's "Mind the Gap" or Berlin's "Zurückbleiben bitte", the Metro's announcements have also become rather famous and add to the overall character of the system (sound example). The lines are quite different with individual rolling stock and safety system. Every line has its own depot from which trains are dispatched. There are links between all lines, but they are not used in any regular service. You can directly change between all lines in three stations: Můstek (A & B), Florenc (B & C) and Muzeum (A & C). I'll suggest line B as a route since it is the longest and the least automated line on the network. Line B is also the newest on the network, with the first section being opened in 1985. In the big floods of 2002 all stations and tunnels in the section between Radlická and Vysočanská were damaged and blocked for around 6 months. Quick Facts: Length: 25,6km Max. One is the 81-71M, a modernised version of the soviet 81-717.1 which is used on lines A and B, and the modern M1 used on line C. The modernised 81-71M got a new traction system, new interior design and an entirely new cab. Even though they are over 40 years old these still have the same performance as the modern M1 found on line C. Of a total of 93 vehicles of this type, 53 are used on line B. 81-71M Optional Extras: Historical Rolling Stock: 81-71 Ečs Signaling and Safety System: ARS: The ARS system (automatickou regulací rychlosti sovětské výroby ⇒ automatic speed control of Soviet production) is a continuous train control system used on line B. It works similarly to the American Pulse Code Cab Signaling systems, the Russian ALSN system or the LS system found on the national rail network of Czechia. The system transmits the signal aspects of the next two blocks and monitors the allowed speed of the train. The ARS can indicate four different speeds (80km/h, 60km/h, 40km/h and 20km/h), a stop (0km/h) and upcoming speed restrictions in the next block. With the ARS system installed the line is capable of running a train every 90sec. Signals: Cab Signalling Clear Expect 40km/h Slow 40km/h Caution On Sight Stop Shunting Clear
