Can it be used for purchasing TSW content or is it used for some other purpose.? Has anyone purchased a live GC, and can explain the difference between the two?
just did a google search for you The Xbox live card is to use for the live subscription to play online and the Xbox gift card allows you to spend on games and things for games. Xbox gift cards allow you to make purchases in a game. Xbox live gives you "x" amount of months to play Xbox games virtually with anyone else in the world who has an xbox live account and that game.
In my experience, If it has a number of months on it, then it’s for Xbox Live. If it has a value then you can purchase anything from the Xbox store.
XBox Live was the prior name of what is now called Game Pass Core, it allows playing multiplayer games on XBox. Old XBox Live cards when redeemed will be converted to Game Pass Core which functions the same way but also grants access to a small selection of the Game Pass library which you can download and play while the subscription lasts.
Funnily and even more confusing though, GamePass Core can be converted to GamePass Ultimate. Although of course the duration gets shortened, it's still noticable cheaper to purchase Ultimate this way than the official subscription - by a significant amount (>30%). But keep in mind this heavily depends on the country you're in - speaking of Germany here. I'm always wondering when MS starts to notice and hinder this trick...
Thank you for everyone who responded. Mircosoft support have confirmed that Microsoft Gift Cards are a gift card in which they can be used to buy devices, games, software, apps, movies and more. This has no fees and expiration dates. And is also redeemable online at the Microsoft Store, on Windows, and on Xbox. Although this cannot be used for in-store purchases at Physical Microsoft stores. While Microsoft Live Gift Cards are used to buy services to play video games on Xbox.
General consensus is that MS designed it this way in order to boost GPU numbers by getting people who would otherwise not be willing to pay GPU prices.
