Hi guys looking to buy midland main line Leicester - Derby route is it any good and is it worth 29.99 price tag seems a bit expensive for an old route your thoughts would be good thanks in advance.
I'd say so, yes. A decent variety of services with the 158 and then a fair number of HST services (plenty of which have a stop in the middle, unlike GWE). The quality of the route is quite high, to the credit of Skyhook for fixing it post-launch. If it goes on a sale I'd say it's a 100% should buy, but at full price I'd say, if it meets your interests, then go for it.
The route isn’t massively long, but there are three different start/termination points, lots of variety and it looks and sounds great. After a poor start, Skyhook really stepped up and turned it into one of the best routes in TSW.
Plus the 158 is seen on Petrborough - Doncaster and Glossop line. I do enjoy runs on MML. It had a shakey start but it's massively improved since then.
Personally if you’re on Steam I would wait for a sale. The route is good, after SHG pulled their socks up, as are the trains particularly the VP185 engine HST. But it is quite short and if you like scenery pretty much flat East Midlands terrain, so purely IMHO not worth 30 quid.
It's overall a good UK route ,now even better since it's had a few nice updates and patches, In my opinion it's even better if you invest in the two freight packs as this naturally gives more traffic,I'd say myself it's worth 30 pounds for the base route
£30 squid is a lot for any route IMO. Do yourself a favour “add to wishlist”. Black Friday isn’t too far away now, if you can hang on till then you may be able to save some money if the route goes on sale. Steam seem to do the most frequent sales though. Xbox and PS it always a guessing game to when they have an upcoming sale.
Yes it is imo. Following a difficult birth Skyhook made great improvements via patches. Lets hope some other DTG partners start doing the same.
For me, Midlands Main Line is one of those routes that I might pickup for sale in the future. The route itself doesn't seem that interesting to me. I would buy it specifically because of the layering onto the East Coast Main Line. (As I do not enjoy High Speed Trains and the Class 158 layer from MML would make it ECML a good route for me) I think it really depends on how interested someone is in a route. During the last sale, the route was 35% off. If someone is really excited about playing it, then paying roughly 10 bucks extra (depending on currency) could be very much worth it over waiting 8 weeks.
Quite a nice route that runs fairly smoothly when compared to some other TSW routes. Fairly short in length but offering variety with both the HST and Class 158 DMU services to operate. Let down by very poor night lighting effects especially on station platforms that appear pitch black despite having lights above them. I got the route for £17.99 on a sale and feel that is a fair price. It is not worth the full price till night lighting is fixed.
The Class 158 (as far as I'm aware) only layers on the East Coast Mainline between Peterborough and Grantham. Neither of those are terminus stations, so you'll really be setting up the train at one end, then driving on the slow lines to the next station where you get kicked out for the train to go off map. Would it really make ECML good for you?
The route is very good, if not, one of the best in the game. After a tough start with missing services and scenery, Skyhook really stepped up their level and the route looks brilliant now. There’s a decent balance between 158 services and HST services. The route itself is around 30 miles I believe (correct me if I’m wrong) so it’s a little on the small side but it is a nice route to drive. I’d personally say get it on sale and with the spare money, buy Skyhooks vol.1 Petroleum pack and Vol.2 aggregates pack to add a little more freight services and make the route feel more alive!
Question I'm not scoring anything for safety using the 158 I've switched it on the upper right side off the cab but nothing no points am I missing something any help would be good thanks
No just passenger think I'm not sure if anything layers into it but you can buy separate dlc vol.1 Petroleum pack and Vol.2 aggregates pack witch are freight
I would say 100% yes, it's a top 3 route for me. HST is well done, enjoyable to drive and sounds lovely, 158 I would say is the best British unit in the game alongside BPO's Pacer and the route itself is now of a very nice quality. Would recommend the Cargo line packs, the aggregate one adds the most in terms of AI I believe. I feel this is where I shamelessly plug a thread I started called 'MML, a Year On - Now a True Gem?' which will hopefully give you a bit more of an insight into people's thoughts and show you a few screenshots!
It is a nicely modelled route and the trains are very well modelled too. However it is a route I hardly touch now. The cargo packs do add some more interest to it though. For me it is too short, the HST runs are over too quick. Despite having three major stations at each "corner" all the class 158 runs go off map, which isn't really a problem, except that for me it ruins the immersion a little. If it was extended to Sheffield and/or Lincoln I would use it a lot more.
So I bought the route i quite like locomotives are good only thing is it's to short for the hst doesn't really get to it's legs but I can live with that.
It's a very good route now in terms of detail. It's only downfall is it is short natured, especially when you have something like the HST which will complete the entire route sometimes in less then half an hour... I sincerely thinj it is a very good route and very well made since the updates were implemented, but for me it is very short and doesn't give me the same buzz or satisfaction as something like the ECML which does give me a real feel of InterCity services and a busy mainline. The rolling stock (the 158 and HST) are very well made in terms of detail and sounds and really good. But as mentioned I'd like a longer route to get the most out of them. It also has a generous amount of layers from the TSW catalogue if you already own them and utilises the under appreciated, and underused ROG Class 37 on 375/377/387 drags. If I'm being honest if you don't have the ECML already, I'd go for that over MML purely because it has some mileage to it, and offers a more in depth gameplay. The MMLs issue is it is brilliant visually and with layers, but that brilliance is undermined by it being a very short route that isn't a fulfilling as it could be. Unless the MML is a local or familiar route and appeals to you for that... The 158 from the route also layers onto the ECML and you get a nice run up to Grantham which is around the same length of the MML in it's entirety from Derby or Nottingham. Saying that though I genuinely believe Skyhook will extend it at some point. Hopefully if it did get an extension it would be to Sheffiled, which would be the most logical station. That would really give it some much mileage to completely open up its potential. At the moment it feels like a very nice but small diorama and a micro route. But each to there own...
