In TSW3, as in TS, TSW, etc., a forward-looking, heads-out view of any engine equipped with an outside rear-view mirror includes an annoying little textbox (here indicated by a white arrow) that reads "Mirror". which pops up whether the mirror itself is extended or not.
The mirror itself reflects when folded against the cab, but does not reflect when it is opened. But that's not my point. Rather, my point is that I can see that the mirror is there and the pop-up box telling me that the mirror is there is nothing but an obstructive and annoying nuisance. So why is the pop-up box there at all?
This, I admit, is a very minor annoyance at first, but it becomes more and more annoying as time passes.

I would like to see this useless little message box done away with, please, DTG. Surely this should constitute a very minor fix?

    Thanks in advance.

Not a game-breaking bug, but trips my OCD all the time.

    Similar to
    • misaligned assets that clip in the ground / each other or place incorrectly.
    • Road numbers with blurred texture.
    • Misaligned 'hitboxes' for various in-cab entities.
    • Cold start sounds ( on SPG ) are triggered when the player interacts with a driving seat.
    • HST power cars numbered '00000'
    • NTP Mk2s numbered '12345'
    • HSC intermodal containers changing colors / branding when switching the camera.
    • Bell sound & animations are not coherent ( on American locomotives )
    • Half a dozen Jubilees with the same number & name plates.
    • Leading loco. on LDP-46 ( and many trains on HSC ) doesn't have prime mover sounds.

FWIW, I think the pop-up is simply telling you that your pointer is now in position to left-click to open the mirror. Same as it does with windows and doors.

Nope! From what I understand, whether you put your cursor or not, you always have the text that appears.

That is the case, I believe.

Agree 100%. Been complaining about this myself in multiple posts. No need for it.

    I’m on Xbox.

On the Xbox at least, if you point the camera away from the mirror (using right stick), the text box will disappear, but of course will reappear if you move it back. And then you are stuck looking more to the side, than forwards. It should be done away with, because actually moving the mirror using this command obstructs your head-out view, and as mentioned the mirror doesn't reflect anyway. Even if the mirror did reflect, it would still be useless because there is no simulated reason to use it in TSW3. It's an annoyance having to move the camera around every time you go to the head-out view, just to make the text box disappear.

"I think ..." , "I think" ..., "I think" . . . Who cares what you think? I'm complaining about what I have seen, every time I drive one of these engines. Good grief!

No, the hitbox of the mirror is simply set up wrong. It's similar to the gangway door of the LIRR M3, which had it's open/close popup remain in the air even if the door was open and you was looking at the place of the door (where it used to be, before you opened it). In normal case the hitbox would move with the moving object, so to close the door you have to actually look at the physical door, and not simply the original place of the door. This is the case here as well, where the hitbox should move with the mirror so you should actually look at the mirror to interact with it.

And this issue remains on all standard cab US locomotives, because the first one was made like this and since then all similar locomotives were most likely copy-pasted, then modified from there. How do you know this is the case? The SPG locomotives had moveable sun shades above the side windows, they could be opened and closed - in recent locomotives, this shade is no longer animated, yet you can look at them, it prompts you to open/close them, it even plays a sound effect if you do so, but they don't move. Because all of these locomotives are just a copy-paste of the original, then modified. While there is nothing wrong with this approach, considering how similar they are, they should really take more care to avoid bugs like this.

This issue was in the Sherman Hill model of the train first and then that was copied to make this one. It should be a simple fix to make the selection box follow the mirror and thus be out of the way but as we know small fixes may never happen. In all the other US locos I use the head-out camera a lot but never use it to look forwards on this model just because of this issue. In reality, the mirror should just stay flat against the train body like in other models as it doesn’t operate as a mirror anyway when it is open.

I agree, Stujoy, but that would lead to complaints about the absence of a "mirror" notification as "broken".
