Good afternoon, today I would like to share a suggestion.

As of January 2026, we only really get any older sort of rolling stock from Just Trains. Examples include their MK1 RMB coach from the WCMLOS route, the RBR coming in their Preston-Crewe route, and the MK2f from their 86/2 pack. We have had some one-offs from the likes of Athena, which covered the TSO, BSO, FK and BG in BR Blue last year too (although it doesn't look great and has a few bugs...). However, if we were to remove JT from the landscape we haven't really received any new MK1/MK2 coaches in a long while.

This is where my suggestion comes in. I'd love to see a Mk1 Coach Pack covering both the BR Blue and Intercity liveries as a minimum (in similar style to Armstrong Powerhouse).

The MK1 coach pack would consist of: BCK, BFK, BG, BSK, CK, FK, FO, RBR, RK, RMB, SK, SO & TSO. It would also be beneficial to cover the three main bogies: the BR1, Commonwealth & B4.

As of now, there are a few routes these coaches could potentially layer onto - GWE (DLoGW), NTP, WCL (pushing it), WCML:Blackpool, WCMLOS just to name a few. On top of that, it could be nicely utilised on railtour layers for modern routes.

Now, looking at the LAMPOIL criteria.

Licensing - should be fairly easy if it is focussed on BR Blue and Intercity.

Anticipation - I feel this is where the DLC will fall short compared to others. Having various different coaches is something that is more likely to be appreciated by a smaller portion of the player base. However I feel once it has been released and people realise the variety it adds, it will more likely be recommended. This is based off what I and a few friends who also play train sims have experienced.

Mix - it depends on the route. For something like railtours where you are driving from A to B, it would not introduce anything new as you'd be hauling coaches. However, for timetables set in the 1970s it would provide a great mix in variety and gameplay. Looking at Plymouth before the introduction of the HSTs, a good majority of coaches were split and added onto Paddington - Penzance services, and the consist of coaches would vary between services. I have attached a photo for the 19:30 Paddington - Penzance service, where all the coaches came from the previous 12:40 Penzance - Paddington journey, whilst the coach set 42 would be split off at Plymouth to join the 06:30 Penzance - Paddington journey the next day and coach set 36 would go down to Penzance and come back up on the 06:15 Penzance - Paddington service the next day. The GUV would come back up on the 16:10 Penzance - Paddington.

Prominence - I think the Mk1s have a bit more prominence than initially thought. Although something like IETs would have more interest to the casual player as they are trains that currently run on our mainlines, the Mk1s have quite the international appeal having appeared in famous movies like Harry Potter which could help boost sales. Although I'm focussing on Mk1s for BR Blue and Intercity, this pack could be coupled with a steam locomotive of some sort, which again is very appealing for the casual player.

Opportunity - this is the opportunity to release a new style of DLC which covers a range of rolling stock. As of now, the closest thing I can think of is either the Sprattyheath 66 reskin pack (freeware) or the upcoming ATS 90, both which cover various liveries in one pack (and in the case of Sprattyheath it also covers a few headlight variations). This could also lead to a Mk2a/b/c and d/e/f pack in the future. Also, the Mk1s have a broad use case. They were around in the steam era (under BR Green, and various other liveries) and even have been used by Network Rail and Royal Mail, so there are potential expansion DLCs which can introduce new liveries for the Mk1s.

Intelligence - the Mk1 coach pack aligns strongly with UK railway heritage and seasonal rail enthusiasm. A release timed with summer holiday periods (thinking of Summer Saturdays), heritage railway gala season, or notable British Railways/Mk1 anniversaries would give Community, Marketing and PR teams strong real-world hooks around nostalgia, preservation, and classic rail travel.

Limitations - I cannot think of many limitations. There are quite a lot of MK1 coaches in preservation (some used on the mainline too) to source reference material from. There is also the Masterkey Simulations MK1 model used for the Armstrong Powerhouse pack, I think it would be a fantastic model to use if there are any issues and covers all the coaches I mentioned. However I can imagine it potentially increasing the workload when it comes to making BR timetables which involve a lot of shunting, coupling, decoupling, ect. This is a small scope in my opinion though, as the majority of released timetables are set in modern times where this isn't a big concern. Even if it does happen, it would only really affect one or two services on a modern TT.

As stated before, I think this is a great DLC model to at least try (works well in the case of AP for TSC), gives those who make timetables more creative freedom and provides more variety for the player.
(Yes, I personally want it to make some BR timetables.)

Let me know what you guys think.

100% support this proposal. This should be a DTG produced item too so no issues between 3P’s layering into or being used on their routes.

Something missing in TSC was a well-done Mk1 generator van.
We've only recently got the nicely done Mk2 17105.
