I feel like it would be quite nice to have a thread to share images and progress updates from WIP Models - be it trains, signs, buildings - whatever. So, here it is! I'll start with this Class 139 model. I've never used Blender in my life so I'm learning as I go here, and starting with a small and simple unit. So far this is what it looks like: Not much, but honest work. I'm sure this thread will quickly show me that I am, indeed, far from great at this
First steps with a station building - next step: add more proper windows + give it a roof Untitled by fceschmidt posted Sep 25, 2023 at 6:22 PM
Some things are off (Namely the windows at the front getting higher in the middle, rather than lower), but for my first ever run with Blender, I'm happy with that. I'll post a final update if/when I finish it.
Do we know what, if any, models will be included with DTG's own implementation of the editor when that's released? I know we can't use cooked stuff and wouldn't expect specific models that their staff spent lots of time to create, but any time-saving generic assets they could make available would be very helpful.
Excuse me, where did that come from all of the sudden ? That's beyond impressive ! What tool do you use ? Blender ?
Hi Kangaroo!, Yes, I used Blender, and I used Pro Skies from Blender Market along with cycles for the render. For the textures on the rear trucks, I used Substance Painter although it's just a metal texture that I created and applied to the entire truck to mess around with so it's not really accurate. I started this project a few years ago in anticipation of the first editor. Now that the new one is out I'm hoping to get this and a few other models "dusted off the shelf" and into the simulator. Cheers
My first draft project will be moving my Tasmanian X class mesh into the TSW Editor. I have a few things on the mesh to cleanup while I wait for the Editor workflow to be worked out by some folks, but its mainly all there in physical form ready to go.
Very exciting to see ! As a beginner I'm looking at these in total awe, and the fact that it's a train I'm excited about only increases that. Thanks for the answer !
They're made for a different game where you wouldn't ever get as close as you do in TSW, but at least it's possible to keep on adding details. I also have a ton of Norwegian farm buildings. Ranging from sheds, to houses to barns. Here's a few.
If they are yours and you have the 3D source, they can all go in TSW, with some bit of work. That nice green EMU
It's all mine I made them for Train Fever/Transport Fever 1 and 2. The buildings were made for Farming Simulator 22.
F140MS2 - just reimported my older model from TSC into TSW, reexported PBR textures and it already looks great.
After studying the folder architecture of some of the box car contents and getting familiarized with RVD, RVM, and RVV files, I decided to create a quick basic box car mesh to import. Success!, well....almost...but she's in the game! I'm eager now to dive into the skeletal mesh/vertex animation workflow that is being used (I'm assuming the lack of a skeletal mesh is what's causing my magic boxcar to float). I'm also eager to learn more about the RVM blueprint file and the depth of this. Is there an official Dovetail games Discord channel? Cheers everyone.
Thought I'd give you an update on this one. Around what, maybe 20 hours of playing in blender and UE later, this is the state of things. The materials in general don't always import properly into UE4, I guess it's because the bricks are procedural in blender... so I have to look into baking that into an image texture, making a procedural brick material in UE4 or finding a good UE4 material to use instead. EMD GP30. I look forward to completing this model and getting her into Substance Painter, and into the editor.
Early Progress by pwilson79 posted Oct 11, 2023 at 7:14 PM And here is what is eventually going to be a G-1 Gloucester subway car, built from 1953 to 1959 by the Gloucester Railway Carriage and Wagon Company of Gloucester, England, and operated by the Toronto Transit Commission in Toronto, Ontario, Canada from 1954 to 1990. Definitely a Work In Progress, but I thought people might want to see how it's coming along. Still working on the exterior, haven't started on interior or undercarriage yet. Kind of worried about finding detailed photos or diagrams of the undercarriage, so I may have to fudge it to some degree (ugh!) Oh well.
