Hi all, Hope everyone's Friday is going well. Has anyone in the modding community planned a mod for JT's WCML Over Shap when it releases to modernise the line infrastructure (or at least just add EPS speedboards) so we can run the 390 on it? I'm unfortunately not really experienced enough with modding to have a go currently, but we do have the EPS speedboards from WCMLS that could possibly be substituted in? I do enjoy the BR Blue era and will have a lot of fun with the base stock of the route for sure, it just seems a shame if we can't realistically operate the 390 on one of the most interesting stretches of the WCML!

You can enhance the scenery via additive layers, but you cannot change the rail infrastructure. You might put up speedboards, but they are just a visual thing for the player, not impacting gameplay at all. To do this, you would need the uncooked project from DTG. Maybe trainsim.cz is up to something which can eventually make that possible, giving modders the full access and the possibility to change / add tracks and make expansions possible, like it's possible in Train Simulator Classic.
I'll probably ask about EPS for the preview stream. I need to check, but if I remember correctly, the TSC version of WCML Over Shap has EPS boards. So either that route is mixed era, or EPS was introduced earlier than I thought.
Adding a speedboard changes nothing. You'd have to connect it to the track properties, which is impossible in TSW if you do not have the project files from DTG. From TSC's Shap manual: 1.3 The Route in Train Simulator The route depicted is broadly based on the layout as it exists today [edit: the TS route was built in 2013] and has existed since electrification in the mid 1970s. The surrounding landscape and urban areas are also modelled on the present day with some stations and features represented as they existed during the 1980s in an effort to allow greater flexibility in recreating operations of that period. The 90 route miles from Skew Bridge Junction (Preston) to Carlisle Upperby are included. The route continues north through Carlisle Citadel Station and via Bogg Junction and the goods/avoiding lines to Caldew Junction. The WCML extends past Kingmoor to Gretna Junction. The Glasgow and Southwestern route from Gretna Junction is included as far as Dumfries, based on the 1980s layout. The Morecambe and Heysham branch lines are included north of Lancaster. The various quarry facilities in the Shap area are included. The various lines converging on Carlisle are included in part to allow various depots and yards to be utilised in scenario creation. The Ministry of Defence facilities at Longtown, Smalmstown and Eastriggs are included to offer further range in scenario creation. The Maxwelltown branch west of Dumfries is also included. The route also features Mk3 catenary assets individually placed to provide as accurate a representation as possible and UK Pro 4 aspect MAS signalling is also included across the route.
arcsin If you're interested in my track unevenness mod you can download it here. It comes as an .ap file added to the route folder. If you're unhappy, just remove that .ap again. Keith Ross has used very high values resulting in awkward zigzagging (physics / cab sway were probably handled differently back then). I've made it a smoother ride. Sorry for OT, I'm gone now
Surely if JT added these speed limits in, but not the visual boards, as it wouldn’t be active for the 87 anyways, only the 390 and, if created, APT. So then modders can go ahead and add the visual boards with the assigned track EPS limits already in place?
I think the section between Carnforth and Carlisle was the first on the WCML to have EPS signage as this was known as 'Test Site A' for main line testing of 390 and 221 EMUs. I'm not sure exactly when the signs were added but it would have been after December 2000 when there was a temporary non-compliance certificate granted for the new signs.
I am thinking of doing a modern day (2017ish) timetable for the route when it comes out but it will take a while. Also, 390s will just have to run at non-EPS speeds since I can't do anything to change track speeds.
Just wanna say that I echo this and I'd be super happy to get a mod just changing the physical speed boards as I don't care if the game thinks I'm speeding or not. I hope the gods of modding will come across this thread.
