Railroader on Steam (steampowered.com) Looks quite good assuming makes it to release. Have to ponder these are some of the elements TSW is crying out for, not just mundane A to B runs or shunting with no purpose. Really hope TSW3 isn't going to be more of the same and that DTG are studying titles like this, or Run 8 and Derail Valley for ideas to spice up the gameplay even if it needs a new mode on top of Timetable/Scenario and Journey.
Not sure on the smoke particle effects, and the passenger cars cast no light on the ground, but plenty out of the ceiling... Hopefully the gameplay makes up for it
Seeing what it looks like so far, not bad when It's still in development. But still looks promising nonetheless (even if the mechanics are better than TSW per se), gonna be keeping an eye on this one. Do love myself a good transitional era of steam with early diesels in the mix.
Suspect there is still much to be done with release I believe sometime next year. As regards smoke particles, well Spirit Of Steam still occasionally goes into cotton wool ball mode. Hopefully the lighting is more amenable to see what you're doing at night too, than in TSW!
It's quite good to have some alternatives. Looking forward to this one. I also have Railroads Online, a completely different game focussing on 19th century narrow gauge and you need to lay all track by yourself, or get it from a community website.. At the moment you should not buy it. It is early access, but the devs are completely rebuilding the game (at leats most of it). If they get it all working again, it may be a great game again.
