Where the tracks split in Cajon Pass, taking different routes through the hills, practically all that area between the tracks is accessible on foot and there are literally hundreds of great places to stand and get fantastic views of the landscape and the trains passing. All the hills can be climbed for great vantage points and there are also all manner of good scenery areas that can be explored between trains passing. There’s just one issue, you can’t spawn on foot there. You can either spawn at San Bernadino and walk for two hours (estimated) to get there or spawn at the summit and spend over half an hour working your way down to the best bits. This is such a wasted opportunity and there needs to be several more places to spawn in that area to explore what is some of the best scenery and railfanning (it’s the US so using the appropriate term) opportunities in TSW. Please add more spawn points (in general) and especially on the long scenic routes such as Cajon Pass, where there are areas that are accessible to walk.
This would be nice, if 2 notable locations that are on the Pass itself were modeled. Hill 582 and the memorial at track 3.... Spawn points at Sullivan's Curve and Mormon Rocks would also of been nice to have.
Why not go timetable and take a set of locos up there. Then park em and go for a walk ;-) Just an idea.
If you park your train on the tracks then it stops all the train traffic in that direction and breaks the timetable* (plus it takes time to get the train up there in the first place, which can take quite a while up that hill). Not a solution for the main purpose of being there, which is to watch the trains go past. You need to be on foot. *EDIT - Of course if the AI takes over the service it won’t break the timetable but it is still a pain to get there rather than being able to spawn closer. I will use this system though as it is quicker than walking !
Don't know these places exactly and which stops are the closest. But you could also just go there with the Scenario Planner and then do extensive sightseeing? I often use this to explore the stations on a route and also to complete the side quests. But I totally agree here- It would be a fantastic idea if DTG would also give you such railfanning spots to choose from for spwaning on foot next to train stations etc which you can skip between via the menu! This could be a feature of its own, similar to Quick-Play!
The idea is to watch the timetable in action from great viewing points. Driving to the places where the best views of passing trains takes too long because the services all start so far away and in scenario planner there is no timetable. It would just be better to spawn in that general area at the time you want to be there. This isn’t really a thread for suggestions on how I can get to those places now because I can access every inch of the route one way or another it just takes ages. it is a suggestion for the route builders to add more spawn on foot points when making the routes because players like to go railfanning. The distance between spawn points is huge and as the devs have already made all the hills climbable and many other places accessible they should make it so players can easily gain access to those places. It would be so simple for them to add more places to spawn, not just the handful of places that services start from which is what they currently do. If for example there are three trains that all pass at the same point at around 3pm in the timetable and then another three pass within ten minutes of that, it would be nice to spawn close to that point and be able to walk there within a couple of minutes and watch all those trains pass by. I wouldn’t want to be driving for an hour to get there first in order to be able to watch that, which is what I may need to do now. Sometimes it is nice to put TSW on in the background while doing something else but getting to the best place to watch trains from on these long routes with no spawn points is a right hassle. TrainSim-Matt what do you reckon to this as a thing to add to routes, as I know you are partial to a bit of in-game trainspotting, and are in the perfect position to make this happen! (See top post for initial suggestion).
