Hello, in this thread i will be discussing my thoughts on how multiplayer can be implemented in TSW if ever added in the future. Of course, others have their opinions and additional advice so I'd love to see you guys implement your own version of ideas or possible ways this could go. Servers: I believe servers should be dependent on whatever route you choose to host. Say someone hosts a server on BML (Brighton Main Line) and you can pick a station or depot you can normally spawn at in free roam and begin your duties. You would continue scrolling or typing in the route name to find a specific server you are looking to join, or create your own! You can also name your server or use certain tags to attract a specific audience. Such as, "Trainspotting at Watford Junction" and then you and lots of other players would flood the Watford Junction platforms to record trains and maybe even all ride in one coach together. From public servers with lots of different people, to private servers with a password so only friends can join. And of course so everything isn't lagging every 5 seconds, you would play on a server dedicated to your area. (Europe, NA East/West, Asia, etc). Hosting Features: When hosting a server you are able to enable or disable whatever content you want or don't want to see on the rails. Similar to Scenario Planner, you would have the ability to enable or disable 'Off the Rails' in your server. Or if for some reason you want to disable a specific train even with 'Off the Rails' enabled, you would be able to do that. I know it's very restricting especially for those who don't own a lot of DLC, but if you enable Off the Rails and still don't want to see a 100 car American freight train on your Cathcart Circle server, you can disable that formation and/or others at your command. Another feature that could be implemented in hosting is of course, the ability to kick/ban a player from your server. Simple, a player went AFK at a station? You can kick that player and they will be able to join back whenever they return. A player is constantly trolling, speeding and long spamming the horn? You can ban that player from rejoining the server entirely. This could be abusive though and used falsely. So maybe a vote could be put in place for trollers to be banned, and maybe players will be kicked automatically by the game if AFK for X amount of minutes. And to have even more control over your server, you can choose if you want AI to appear on the route. This includes AI traffic and AI passengers. You can disable one, the other, or both if you wanted to. Just having live players on the rails depending on your preference, and could even help performance wise. Joining a Server: When spawning a train, you can only spawn in a yard, depot, or siding (if vacant). Then in said locations, you would spawn already in the train you selected on the previous screen before joining the server. However, when spawning at a station, you would be on foot instead of a train and won't be able to spawn a train on the platform to avoid congestion within the line, or SPAD someone who runs through that platform. It would operate somewhat similar to free roam but I'll explain more. To just become a passenger or conductor, you would select 'On Foot' and then the desired station. You cannot spawn at any other location besides stations when on foot. (Ex: Spawning at Reading station to ride a Class 43) And to become a driver, select the train you are willing to drive then any valid spawn point which is not already occupied by another player. (Ex: Spawning at Selhurst Depot Track 11) Server Size: This could be chosen by the host of a server, but to reduce ridiculous amounts of lag, this could also be a fixed number by the devs. Of course the AI traffic density would most likely be toned down even if you kept it enabled to compensate for the amount of players in a server so they can fit within the timetable. Other Features: Having actions/emotes in multiplayer would increase the immersion and communication between players. Having a 'record' action where the player's character holds up their arms and holds their phone or camera to record the trains coming by though it will not actually record as it's just an action. I've seen this implementation in some scenarios on specific routes, so this should be a breeze as well as making a keybind for these emotes. Unless proximity voice chat will be implemented, we could have a chat box to communicate meet ups or to directly talk to someone. (at the moment i cannot think of any additional features, but i will update this when it enters my brain) Ending Your Service: Now, I'll be honest. I haven't thought a whole lot about this one but I'll put together something and see if I can make sense of it. If not, you can correct me or put the pieces together. When you reach the end of your service, you can reverse and go back to the end of the route, or terminate at an intermediate section if it has a terminating platform. But if you wish to not turn around and continue the return journey, then you could ECS to a depot, or enter a siding if available. I would say you could let the AI just drive it off the map or you could delete the train but I definitely think theres a better way. I just cannot think of it at the moment. And this is what I have for now! This is definitely subject to change and update for additional information. I was debating if I should enter this in the 'Suggestions' forum, but multiplayer is a tedious and famous topic that has been promised and discussed every year. So I won't count this as a suggestion just my view on how this could go if we ever get this mode added.
No thank you. The current state of TSW is really mid with the game being unstable, lot of fixes waiting to happen and patches breaking stuff in-game. DTG needs to focus and put all their energy fixing the game and not doing any multiplayer.
Yes, I would really like to have the Mulitplayer functionality as well. The problem is that the amount of performance needed to make that happen is unlikely to be able to be sacrificed in the way the game is concepted. The basic gameplay, features and scenery already take as much performance that many people suffer from severe stutters and FPS drops. However, it might be cool as an offshoot and only for its purpose dedicated game like the upcoming Train Sim World VR, Train Sim World MP.
DTG has stated that multiplayer will never come to TSW, so can we stop beating this fossil of a horse?
I hope this will never happen!!! This will destroy TSW for good, DTG is not even able to release working patches, let alone keep working features so that they still work after a patch, then previously working features stay broken for weeks, months or even years. Also they don't listen to the community and don't care about bugs that have been reported hundreds of times for years.
I see where people are coming from, but it keeps getting brought up because there are no other multi-user options for console players. They can't just "go play one of those other games" that are on PC.
SimRail is supposedly coming to console but no date for that, just like the save game for single player!
It was supposedly coming on console last year and we’re nearly in 2025, I don’t think it’ll come any time soon or even at all.
Yes, we can. I apologize for bringing this back from the dead. But It's just whenever TSW finds stable ground and can finally be able to build on a huge feature. Again, I'm deeply sorry for starting up one of the most difficult and probably most dysfunctional mode.
There are more pressing issues I'd rather DTG spent their time on. Let's get them out of the way first before even thinking about multiplayer.
Definitely a yes for me regarding multiplayer, but bringing it up on here tends to irritate a few folks. A very polarising subject, but if it's anything like simrail, would bring a whole new immersive dimension to TSW. If we can't have random events, mp is the next best thing. Standing by for flak...
Thanks for understanding and thats somewhat of what I was expecting but of course it would take a while to even get close to Simrail.
again to quote what i said in the last thread its clear DTG don't care for multiplayer shame but obvious also in the games current state multiplayer is a bad idea DTG can't fix issues as it is i dread to see how multiplayer will turn out i can just see threads complaining and whining about multiplayer bugs DTG need to fix the game before ever considering multiplayer
its a good suggestion and all, very well written, but DTG need to fix the many issues before they can even plan multiplayer.
wait hold the train a sec so Trainz and sim rail both are coming to console DTG watch out then the competition just arrived my birthday and Christmas just came early side note: not getting my hopes up too much probably be 55 years old before that ever happens
Going be honest here but I don't get why people write long posts detailing things they would like DTG to implement in future TSW releases. Sure, I would also love it if DTG took their customers' feedback seriously and added more interesting and challenging features to the game. But the fact is they barely put any effort into fixing known bugs and addons that have been badly broken for years (hello BR 187 and BR 204) and their least for the most business model is well known to any TSW player that isn't a blinkered fanboi. I mean this is the company that endlessly recycles the same handful of vehicles and includes scenarios where the most difficult "challenge" amounts to driving the train at a snail's pace for half an hour or stopping at an unexpected red signal. The heat death of the universe is more likely to happen before DTG changes its ways.
Im not absolutely against the Idea of a Multiplayer for TSW. But like pretty much all other responses i also think that TSW has such huge problems atm that should be handled first. TSW in its current form isn't a good foundation for a Multiplayer at all. Great to see Simrail going Consoles. I think a bit of competition is helpful and i like the concept of SimRail
I’ve brought TSW to ThirdRails Radar, giving you the chance to enjoy a multiplayer-style experience! In this first iteration, you’ll see yourself on the Multiplayer Radar with station-to-station tracking and can interact with other drivers from both TSW and Train Simulator Classic. It’s limited for now, but it’s a solid start toward a richer multiplayer-style experience. I would like multiplayer. Big yes from me. Obviously, the single player experience would remain. It took me far too long to realise that people thought that multiplayer would replace single player, when no game I've ever played has done this (granted, I haven't played many games).
Once again, like many people have stated, this not something that should EVER be added to TSW. To many trolls and killjoy’s to ruin the fun and immersion for everyone else. Plus the ban/kick function could be just as easily abused. Overall TSW 5 is in no state to be considered ‘ready’ for new features, plus it would probably take them 3 games to develop, TSW 10 Early Access Beta, TSW 11 Pre Release, TSW 12 Full Release. So, just no.
