Multiplayer could add a whole new list of opportunities for TSW. People can set up realistic ops sessions and there could be a dispatcher mode. This would be a great addition to the game
So, if the game is barely holding it together as it is right now. Then I doubt it could run without the game just tearing itself apart. Not just that, but with multi-player it'd depend how many people you intend to fit in 1 server session. Remember, most routes are basically A to B with barely any branches to begin with. For multi-player to actually be effective and fun, DTG would need to make a massive map with multiple branches and things on the side to not have it basically just a constant loop of A to B. There'd need to be alot more work done on this. Then there's the dispatcher mode, which I'm not exactly sure how it would work in UE4 TSW. Currently, as far as I know, the timetables are done in a way so it doesn't break the game session by having a bunch of confused AIs getting stuck at danger signals. It would need to be once again rebuilt to accommodate active change in a session. Finally, there's the community acceptance of a multi-player mode. There's many people who enjoy it just being themselves, whether it's due to a fear of trolling or something else. I'm sure, eventually, maybe someone will get around to it. But as of right now, I dont think so. On the good news though, there's SimRail, that's multi-player and it works. It's even confirmed to be released eventually on console(9th Gen).
I love the idea of multilayer, it would be fun and quite chaotic but it may not be possible on some smaller routes.
If you want multiplayer, SimRail is thataway>>>> While not as bad as thought, dropping on to a server and ending up running the same stretch of line over and over again because nothing was available in your desired area got stale. Having human signallers adds a bit of variety. At first there was also a bit of good natured banter but that now seems frowned upon. Apart from that and sounding the horn as you pass other player driven trains is really it, no substitute for a decent SP game. Run 8, another example of multiplayer not enhancing the experience. Set off with your train, a load of people chatting who then blank you if you have the temerity to try and join in. Park your train out the way with the intention of returning later and find someone has deleted it or taken it over.
wdym that way like the new text thing????(saracsm) anyways i think there should be a guard mode too when you are playing with a friend you shloud be able to be a guard on his train AND AS ALL MULTIPLAYER GAMES IT SHOULD HAVE A SPLIT SCREEN MODE(XBOX PLAYSTATION ANY FRICKIEN PLATFORM EVEN PC FRICK IT I GUESS)
I'm going to be honest, with full respect, splitscreen is a long gone thing at this point. I've barely met a single person who plays splitscreen outside of on the Nintendo.
i play on split screen on my xbox one AND 360 in games like minecraft f1 2011 and other games anyways i think it shloud be a feature tahts off by deafult but can be turned on with just one option(on by deafult on xbox but it shloud require a button combination like Y B A LB)
I do it is just not at the top of my list but is also not at the bottom it still beats out VR by a long stretch
So the thing is, that's extra resources poured into a feature that barely anyone will use. IF the majority of the playerbase would request splitscreen mode, maybe that'd be a possibility, but as of right now it's like 1 or 2 people.
DTG doesn't care what you want. If a majority of people do not care for multiplayer then it's not going to happen
My friends and I would mostly just like a simple co-op version of select services with roles like a driver and a guard, with each role contributing to the overall rating at the end of the run.
Speaking as someone who buys games on the strength of splitscreen multiplayer alone, who has 4 XBoxes hooked up all the time specifically for having friends around for 16 player Halo parties, who believes that absolutely Splitscreen is a valuable addition to any game built around its inclusion from the ground up - Splitscreen is a HUGE additional overhead over basic netcode for LAN or internet play. There's a lot of extra work involved in the rendering and TSW is not the smoothest experience to start with, especially on some of the consoles. The additional memory usage alone would probably crash the game on Series S.
Now co-op, that could be an actually pretty good idea. Instead of massive multi-player servers that'd require a ginormous map, something small as a 2 to 4 player co-op mode is much more feasible.
Do you have any evidence to back up your claim? Also, we all know how DTG are, they do what they want.
Multiplayer has been on the drawing board for many year's. From the TSW 2 FAQ page "Where is Multiplayer? We want to bring Multiplayer to Train Sim World, and we now have a design that we think will give a great social experience. It’s been crucial to design based on the experience of the mode, bringing the right roles and communication to our online experience. Multiplayer is not part of Train Sim World 2, but it’s on our future roadmap"
Yeah, think an experience somewhat akin to the Glossop Line "On Guard" scenario, but with one player in the driver's seat, with the usual timetable run duties of driving the train, but also acknowledging the buzzer from the other player before departure, etc. One player hosts the game, with their client acting as the server, and can invite the other from their friend list.
I'm not sure what a guard is for but yeah! It reminds me of those multi-player desert bus games, super chill with friends.
Yeah, you get it! The guard on a train does a few jobs that the aforementioned scenario involves, handling the opening and closing of the passenger doors, ensuring nobody is standing over the line, making sure it's safe to close them, and then alerting the driver from the rear of the train that it's safe to depart once they are closed, and finally checking the tickets while it's in motion.
Plus making relevant announcements and dealing with train faults and problems when they arrise as well as passenger situations/emergencies.
