Pretty simple really, turn it off! I was doing the testing scenario in the 801, then some music of questionable quality starts playing out of nowhere at an insulting volume. It is so unbelievably loud that I could not hear the DSD or AWS. Music in scenarios is an unnecessary distraction and should be removed where it has been implemented as a matter of priority.
I thought it was a bug, is it meant to be there? It’s awful. On the Azuma, you can’t hear the alarms anyway but with that music you can’t hear anything at all.
Music, I think that has been the no. 1 feature on the wishlist of all people in the Community. I already have wondered why the TSW4 announcement stream was beginning with the music and orchestra video. So this explains it. I don't have TSW4 yet but I can also say I wish for a feature to turn it off. Totally unnecessary stuff in a simulator.
Matt said it was dramatic cinematic effect. Heard it on the ECML Intro. Could barely hear the narrator with the music and Azuma emergency diesel engine running.
The music itself is nice, but there is no place for it in the scenarios in my opinion. It should at least be able to be turned off. I thought it was a bug as well but apparently it’s meant to be there.
Option to turn off, please. Not needed and not wanted. Put focus where it should be : correct train sounds.
I thought it was a bug as well lol, I was on the testing scenario and it started playing randomly after I paused it for a few seconds, I saved the scenario, come out the game, shut it down, went back into the game and saved scenario and the Music wasn't there.
That's nice, but music is the first thing I turn off in any video game. If I want music, I'll let my own media player run in the background. There should always be an option to turn off music, in any game.
Depends on the type of game, as I just have passed the 100+h in Starfield I wouldn't like this game withou its Music, or CP2077. But this is something totally different. An RPG or any other game compared to a Simulator. So yes when I like to listen to music and drive TSW, I'll do that. When I like to drive ETS and listen to some music, sure I can do that. But no need for ingame music in those cases. In a simulator I like to enjoy the sound mostly. I often drive TSW and listen to some podcasts for example. Whatever...we need an option to turn it off, please!
No it doesn't depend on the game. You obviously like some games with music, that's fine, but I don't. So any game needs an option to turn off music, including Starfield. It's a user preference, and a pretty basic one.
I don't mind the music as the music are for moments in scenarios i believe there is an roadmap article explaining that too
Honestly I find the music and the music volume fine. It's the ambient noise that's too loud. And the traction motors are too quiet. Also the narrator was basically shouting at me so that was fine. I think you just need to find tune your settings a bit for what suits your setup.
I just said from my personal perspective it depends on the type of game, I didn't say their shouldn't be an option to turn off the music. And you can do that in 99% of the games, including Starfield ;-)
The issue is that there are no settings to tune, at least it's not obvious which ones control scenario music. As others have said above, whilst I'm driving I'm the DJ- not DTG. I'll decide if I want music or not. A checkbox/slider would suffice to make both sides happy.
Yes the music is great music, but it caused me to miss the AWS ping which cause me to come to an embarrassing halt under Hurn road footbridge, which was very annoying. Good concept but just doesn't quite work personally.
If you're reaction to playing something like the The Beatles: Rock Band is "turn this LOVE off" I think you're better off just not playing that game, whether you can mute the music or not. Obviously a bit of a extreme example, but even more traditional games like Mario tend to have levels where things happening along with the music. And Left 4 Dead has music cues which can give you advanced warning something's about to happen. So saying that every game ever benefits from being able to turn off the music is a extreme take. That said to make it clear I will with you that Train Simulator is not, and absolutely should not one of those games. Especially since sound is actually very important to pay attention to real life train operations, it's extremely stupid to make that aspect harder to deal with. And considering how many issues Train Sim has it's really damn annoying to see DTG wasting their time paying composers and orchestras when that money would objectively be better spend elsewhere.
Gotta join the choir here. The music is a nice novelty … for a minute or two. While I don’t particularly mind it in some special scenarios, I already feel that it was overused and outstayed it’s welcome. A banging OST is not what I’m here for.
Toggle to turn it off +1. Has no place during gameplay. Who in the world thought this was a good idea? Not a train enthusiast for sure. Hmm. On the other hand, how about a quick burst of the " Hallelujah Chorus " when you get gold or platinum. ( just kidding )
They spent a lot of money hiring that orchestra! Doggone it you're going to hear it at every possible moment!
I haven’t played the scenarios with music in them yet and would appreciate a list of them so I can avoid them if possible. Music is not allowed in the cab of any train and therefore should be kept to the menu, game trailers and the start of livestreams and not in playable content. I don’t want to be driving a train in the finished, edited version of a movie. If I wanted a cinematic moment, I would go to the cinema. This grumpy old man is not a fan of this unnecessary feature. Nip it in the bud before it expands.
I mean. I did have the scotrail driver of the 156 I was on blast the harry potter theme on the PA system when I was going over Glenfinnan Viaduct. So... Lol. I get it though. It's not supposed to happen and kinda breaks immersion.
Personally i quite liked it.For those who are waiting to play, its about 2min long, the OP, doesn't really set an accurate scene. When i was doing the scenario and i achieved the goal it added some sense of purpose/happening to the moment. I would love to see music used on scenarios whereby you're repeating a historic moment or such like. When a route has over 300 services with no music, and then one scenario (which lets be honest as they're the same end result i dare say the majority of us play once) I personally dont see the hardship. Hardly game or immersion breaking for the 2min out of 60. If however we had 300 musical services and one silent scenario we'd need a different post today. I think Arosa had xmas music you could have on (granted a switch on carriage). I'm happy the gameplay team are running wild.
For me it was quite a bit longer than 2 minutes and personally I found it added SFA to the driving experience. Doing 100mph in a 140 capable train is hardly worthy of orchestral accompaniment. Arosa xmas music was togglable and quiet and definitely inaudible from the driving position. Quite the opposite here. I understand some enjoy this, but some also do not. It is surely not too much to ask for the option to have it muted.
Thinking from the perspective of someone who might actually like the music for a moment would this really be a good thing? Like if you actually want the music wouldn't you want it to appear more often? I really doubt having it randomly only appear once for two minutes across a hour long scenario Is doing jack to please that hypothetical person. After all many games actually have soundtracks that span hours and play throughout the entire game, not just a few random two minute snippets across a entire game.
I've really enjoyed the music playing in scenarios, but yes it should have it's own volume control for those who don't, personally I'd be turning mine up.
I'm gonna have to say I'm with those who think this is a very obnoxious and unnecessary addition to the game. It was so loud I couldn't even hear myself talking and it also overpowered the already super-quiet safety system sounds which resulted in me completely missing the opportunity to acknowledge then having to deal with the train coming to a stop. This gorgeous triumphant orchestra is playing at max volume and my train is screeching to a halt. Probably the most hilarious moment I've encountered in a while in TSW lol. @ 8:18 LMAO
Holy LOVE, the audio mixing is awful, even by normal DTG standards, who the hell signed off on that thinking it was ok? I've played a lot of games and I don't think any game I've played has the music overwhelm the in-game sounds so badly. I'm not a fan of scenarios even on the best of days, IMO the way DTG do them tends to end up feeling pretty canned and they're more likely to break than timetable runs from my experience. That said I will usually at least play them once in a while, but the music here would will well put me off from ever playing any new ones if they keep this up. And I said this earlier, but do we really need to hire a orchestra to be doing the music here? There's games that have sold millions of copies which use synth soundtracks for (I'm assuming) cost saving reasons. Metroid Dread is one of my favorite games period, and that uses synths in its soundtrack. It seems ludicrous to be spending what I assume is a fair sum on a orchestra for a game as niche as the Train Sim series.
I agree that the music has no place here, and at the very least should fall into the existing audio settings to be muted. What I found funny though, is that scenarios you’d actually see a point in having music, don’t have it?? Seems like someone just had the idea to do it and put some music in willy nilly.
LOL! Nice video though. Well done! But yeah, the music just seems awkward and out of place and just seems to get louder and louder that it almost even drowns out your voice Definitely seems like an odd design choice.
I disagree. It’s a train simulator (supposedly) and therefore music has no place in the gameplay. That’s an immovable fact. Now, if we stop calling it a simulator and call it a game then that’s something different, but I don’t think that’s what DTG are aiming for. If you choose to include this (and I’m firmly in the ‘please don’t’ camp) then there must be a way to disable it.
Imagine brighton with 1400 playable services and one scenario with music in. I'm struggling to compute on this one how game breaking and offensive it is but appreciate implementation is up for debate by people.
I get where you’re coming from but for me it’s not ‘offensive’, it’s just not a simulator if it has music playing whilst engaged in the bread and butter of the game, driving trains. Whether that’s in 1 service/scenario or 1000 the principle remains the same. I could hack music in the setup, or at a stop, but whilst driving I’m really a long way from convinced.
For me when I first heard it I thought it was a bug as I was on the pause screen just before it started. As others have said it drowns out other noises like the safety systems resulting in an emergency stop that isn't their fault. For me it's not game breaking but an option to switch it off would be a welcome addition.
Hey everyone, am I understanding it correctly that music during cinematic moments in scenarios is still playing, despite being turned off in the options menu? All the best, Jan
You can’t turn it off. The point being made is that having music in scenarios is not liked by everyone, so having the option to disable it should be available. Having played a scenario with music in it a few times due to failing it, I don’t hate it, so would like to keep it, but those that do hate it should be able to turn it off.
I should add a clarification to my previous comments, they are not in any way a criticism of the composition. The music itself is lovely!
I found it annoying during the training for the 800 and the German one. Your listening to so info about the route and then BAM, music. Can't hear anything else. Please put an option to turn it off
Please add the option to disable music in scenarios! I find its sudden appearance while I'm playing one really distracting to the extent that I don't want to play other scenarios as I can't tell when it will happen again. And yes, alarms get missed (which I imagine is why real drivers aren't allowed to listen to the radio while driving ). Otherwise, I'm really impressed with TSW 4.
Sorry to bump this but I’ve just experienced it for myself. I’ll admit my previous comments on it were coming from the standpoint of not having played the scenario at that point. With hindsight I’d say this; - The soundtrack composition and musicianship is lovely. Well done Benjamin - In this specific circumstance I get why it was included. These speed test scenarios are a bit blah anyway and it provides a nice bit of atmosphere on a famous bit of track. The piece is only a minute or so long so not overly intrusive - Aside from the philosophical point about music in-cab, the issue is it is simply way too loud, drowning out anything and everything else in the game. There needs to be an in-game music slider to adjust volume with the ability to also mute it should the player wish.
