General Survey ------------------------------------------------------------------ Anyone here play a musical instrument? If so, do you play in any bands/orchestras? What level/grade are you if you play professionally/get lessons? If you don't play an instrument what Instrument would you like to play? Just curious. I play saxophone, I am in 3 bands. West of Scotland Training Band, South Ayrshire Senior Band and South Ayrshire Jazz Band. I am grade 4 Let me know your answers below.
I tried Spanish/classical guitar for a little while, but the two-hand multitasking was way beyond my abilities. Decided to give music another try more recently and was considering saxophone, but went for boogie-woogie piano instead. That's desert island music for me, so I hope it works out. I have a starter keyboard now and just need to get the learning going.
I used to get piano lessons until around my junior year of high school. Well mainly cuz it's like the Asian stereotype. Never took it seriously so I always got scolded by the teacher for not practicing lol.
I played clarinet badly in the school band around 1976. Same reed as sax I believe. Oh my cheeks! Guitars have always been present. I played in a couple of gigging pub bands late '80's/ early '90's. I'm far from great, but it's fun.
Pipe Organ and Cembalo (Harpsichord) with a B-Grade from some 100 years ago (well, 35 in fact). Didn´t follow that path but still play occasionally at home (Johannus) or when I have a good church organ at my disposal. Nothing public anymore, though. That would be pushing it since one gets quite rusty over the years. It´s also where the forum name comes from.
My studio. I have worked for the BBC and others, worked for Gary Numan in 2012. I also play the drums.
Never been able to play an instrument but always wanted to play the piano. In my younger years me and a few mates from both my village and surrounding villages went round and wurzelised some songs (along with some wurzels classics), Tigerfeet was my favourite to change, and from there instead of doing western accents we really overemphasised our eastern accents to give a similar effect (but better) and I was the singer. These days I am more a kitchen sing-whilst-making-the-tea sort of singer and usually to the likes of Oasis or UB 40. Not an instrument but the most musical I got!
I unfortunately do not play any instruments as I never learned as a kid and learning to play one as an adult is proving difficult for me. But I do compose music on FL Studio if that counts. Have a few tracks on Spotify (shameless self plug)
I did have a ukulele at one point, accidentally tightened a string to much and it me in the face. No joke. I looked into a piano, but then realised I sounded worse then my guts after Taco Bell!
About 12 years ago now (school year 5ish) I pretty much got no choice but to take brass lessons at school (quite a few did, I don’t remember how I got tied into it tbh) it was the cornet the instrument it was. I never liked it very much and definitely wasn’t very good, I think eventually they realised how little interest I had in being there, and didn’t have to go anymore to the lessons, though I honestly can’t remember how I left it.
Nice stuff there. How do u like the ProhetX? In my opinion it's an underrated experimental (and expensive) synth thing. Good to actually see it in a 'normal' studio.
The Prophet X blows everything else out of the water, and even though it is 5 years old, every time I switch it on, it takes me to new places I have never been, its a very inspiring synth, and it is very underrated, its sonically like a version of Omisphere, but on steroids. Ill still be using it in 5 years time.
Nice. I really like that machine. The 8DIO samples on board are really good quality and the mixture of samples and standard oscillators is quite special. Unfortunately i don't have any space for that beast and there is no rack version of it (what is a shame for lots of DSI/Sequential products like the Pro2,Pro3,Take5). I'm trying to come back to music making after about 23 years. Just bought some stuff that might be useful and interesting to play with (if i find any time). Looks ugly on the scaffold Jaspers ^^ Need to construct a wooden desk for all that.
I'm person that plays keyboards sometimes, I'm saving up to buy a Roland keyboard, either a Juno X, Juno DS88 or RD2000. If I was buying a Yamaha keyboard, it would be a Motif for me. Or from Korg, I would buy a Oasys or Triton
I'm playing the guitar (autodidact), got a Strat, Tele and an Epiphone Les Paul. Bought a nice Mesa Boogie Mk 2 amp from a canadian guitarist which I luckily got to know (John Campbelljohn). Sometimes keyboard, got a vintage Yamaha DX-7 Synth here which I'm just learning to program.
My person favourite vintage keyboards/synths are the Sequential Prophet 5, Yamaha DX7, Minimoog, Roland Juno 106, Rhodes Piano, Hammond Organ, and ARP Odyssey
Guitarist and Bassist here! I already play in a band as a Bassist and planning to do a Power Metal project in future.
