Hello! Today, I want to talk about my paper trains, which I built for almost three years now! It all started with...TSW2. In 2021 I got the game as a gift and installed it. After the game crashing and lagging on my (rather old) PC, I decided to uninstall it. But then, I missed the idea of watching trains from outside when driving them. So, I decided to build paper trains in a scale from 1:160 (N-scale). Since then, I´ve built over 540 paper trains (each loco, wagon, part of an EMU has it´s own number), rather focused on German trains. But now I´m slowly running out of ideas and I want to focus rather on British, Austrian or even American trains. I take my ideas which train I want to build next still from TSW releases, e.g. when Niddertalbahn came out, I built the BR 628 in 4 different liveries and so on. Hope you enjoy my pictures I took, I will update this thread from time to time, when I find my other trains, like the HST or my TGVs...
I have printed out some "track-carpets" out frome Google Earth, sometimes I put trains together on these
Just out of curiosity, how long does it take you to do a piece of rolling stock. And how mad do you get when you rip one of the narrow sections of the pantograph? lol
A electric locomotive takes ca. 1 hour and a freigt wagon for example ca. 45 minutes. For the pantographs, I cut out 5 small stripes and two "V"s, stick them together and voilá! I have good fine motor skills, so I don't have a problem with that doing it with my hands
Wonderful, thanks for showing. I'm impressed by the amount of liveries too, are these painted or hand drawn?
holy mother of pantographs I bet Austrian trains like Herbert 1144, Siemens Desiro ML 4744/4746/4748, Talent 1 4024...
Very cool! You even have the BR 628 in the livery of the Hessissche Landesbahn as I see it (the one with the yellow cab and red stripes), which still operates on the route I try to build. And how do you store all of those? I guess they need to be covered from any kind of water or air moisture, right?
They are all categorised (like ICEs, German locomotives, european tank cars, etc.) and stored in small boxes which are stored in a big drawer of my cupboard or under my bed. I like the BR 628 too, it was very fun to build it and I really often use it when I showcase my trains
Pictures of my German EMUs: (I actually have 4 heads for the ICE 3, but only 6 wagons. Sometimes I use the "normal" livery, sometimes the "Klimaschützer"-livery)
If I remember, only the EMT HST set, ICE 3 and the TGVs (which I haven´t found yet) are from the internet, all others are self-made (with a VERY good 3D feeling)
Today, I finished a very exotic paper train - the DB BR 218 in Spyro-the-Dragon livery. I already made this as a repaint for TSW and published it via Creators Club (https://creatorsclub.dovetailgames.com/creations/158014) Then, I had the idea to export the livery with the Godmode mod and edited it on the PC. And that's the result ( the scale is bigger than H0, the width ca. 4,5 cm) : Enjoy!
Ca. 98 % of them are made custom in Paint 3D with a good feeling for 3D The last 2% come from some free blueprints from the internet. The Spyro loco was just cutting out pieces and stick them together.
I once had a good time where I finished it in ca. 2 hours - extracting from IRL fotos and designing with shapes. Nowadays, it takes me much longer becaues I don´t have currently enough motivation - you know, the heat....
Anyone knows if they are paper models manifacturer/distributor of German rolling stock for commercial sale? I tried to google something but found just some dampfloks, nothing from new epochas except ICE. I’m not into creating my own paper model and printing it, I just want to buy it and build it. Recently I bought some paper models in 1:100 scale of Czech/Slovak electric locomotives and the details are pretty good, so I was thinking they are also some manufacturers of DE rolling stock. Product looks like this:
Maybe have a look here (at the bottom of that page). There are much steam trains but also some diesel locos etc. that are still in service today.
It's been quiet for a while now, but today I have some news to share!^^ Firstly, TSW5 finally motivated me into doing the ICE-T and also the subvariant ICE-TD of it! I also got over-motivated and remade the Siemens ES 64 U2-Base (Taurus) and from that, I remade some old ÖBB-Taurus locos, made new ones and in addition to that, I also remade all ÖBB Eurofima coaches: Also new to that are the Nightjet coaches that I didn't have before. And if someone is also interested - here some of the newest WIP paper trains: I'll now do a little bit more of Austrian trains and followng soon is the Stadler KISS in Westbahn livery. Left, you can see a front prototype that I created as I was bored. Followed from that, I created it digital part for part, so I now can test the shape in it's final form. Now I have to paint the rest of it, create all missing parts and the other coaches^^ The research for side photos of the Westbahn is very hard, so I've a little problem with the look of the bogies. Another early stage prototypes are these - A front shape for a new version of the Vectron that will be much more detailed than the old one, and right the front for a ÖBB CityShuttle Cab car that also gets a remake.
