On viewing the above I was somewhat surprised to see it shown as the Bakerloo Line and 1972. Actually quite ridiculous as I have probably spent more time driving German locos, Electrostars and the various diesel locos on NTP and TVL. It appears the rating is arrived at purely on the basis of Action Points which, as we know, rack up disproportionally if you do an intensive service calling at all stations. A typical run from Harrow to E&C will probably yield > 10k points. The 1972 stock shows as Level 19 @163k points while the Bakerloo rates at Level 12 @172k points. By contrast, NTP is on Level 9/82k points for the route. There needs to be a slightly more sophisticated system for calculating this which also takes into account distance driven and time in the driving seat of the various traction units. Bakerloo is okay, but no way in heck is it my most played or favourite route. Maybe the AP awarded needs to be scaled to the task in hand if no other method is possible.
Sorry to bump my own thread but further thoughts overnight. One solution might be to change the scoring system to that of TSC, where each career run has a maximum possible score of 1000 points. That way the score is divided by the number of station calls and other objectives so you don’t end up getting 500 points for every station stop as with TSW. There are also no points for keeping to the speed limit, though plenty off if you go over. So whatever run you pick in TSW, timetable, scenario or one from Journey the score is capped. Otherwise we have this ridiculous situation where you do a round trip on Bakerloo and get 30k points from all the station calls, but spend an hour or more slogging a heavy freight over SPG or Cajon and lucky to get 2k points.
I take no notice of what the game thinks my favourite train or route is. It’s just candy floss. I haven’t even driven my favourite train in TSW3 yet and I don’t even have it installed due to the PS5 DLC limit. I am playing the newer routes more. I didn’t transfer my profile data to TSW3 but even then I wouldn’t take any notice of what comes up as my ahem “favorite” things. The important information is contained in the timetables, with which services I have completed in any given menu. The points awarded is just a bit of fluff and meaningless in how much enjoyment I get from the game. As long as each service can reach the gold medal score in play, I’m happy with that. The total points mean nothing and I don’t think that DTG could or should try to have a standard score for each service or hour played as I just don’t think it’s important, I don’t have the points updating on screen these days as it was comical how often it updated on high speed routes so I turned it off. My current overall level score is climbing very slowly due to the majority of play being in Cajon Pass, the best route in TSW by far to me but a slow slog for scoring, and someone playing Bakerloo all day long would look to the outside observer to be ‘better’ at this game than I am due to their much higher points score and level but realistically in TSW it is meaningless. And that’s okay by me because I’m not counting or comparing myself to anyone.
Oh I know it's floss and like you I turned off the intensely irritating AP accumulator at the top of the screen. However if you're going to have a scoring system in the game it needs to be somewhat more meaningful, just IMHO.
More meaningful yes, but let's at least have an AP system that has services with gold medals that are achievable. I have repeatedly made note of the scoring threshold for many services/scenarios being set unobtainably high on various threads and the Technical Reports section. Somehow though, DTG have yet to acknowledge that this is a problem and fix it. I love the game as much now as when I started around 3 years ago but get so frustrated after having driven near perfectly for sometimes more than an hour to discover a measly bronze medal is the highest that can be achieved. DTG, Rivet etc...please please please can you go over all of the scoring thresholds for all routes/services/scenarios and lower those that are out of reach.
What are you talking about? This suggestion is for TSW, to moderate the disproportionate AP you can receive thus giving a false positive of your favourite route/traction. I’ve been around here long enough and bright enough to know which suggestion goes where!
