when I get a job as a train driver at DB and successfully get into DB Fernverkehr I will definetly atleast try to strap a GoPro onto the front bogie of an ICE and record the sound directly from the source I have no idea, if I get to secretly do it before getting it into service, how I'm gonna remove it again, unless I possibly, luckily, get a service where it's just an empty run to another depot, so then I can remove the camera and look at it and possibly post it on YouTube. yall I believe a run on Cologne-Rhine/Main would be nice with a GoPro at the side of the bogie but I am afraid it will just fly off due to the high wind speeds of roughly 300 km/h lmao
I suspect that if I secretly strapped a camera to the bogie of one of my trains I'd get the boot for sure, so I would say don't do it even if you have summed the idea up very well in the title.
If you tried that in the UK without permission from the operator, you'd be dismissed immediately. Also, go-pro cams don't have the best mics for recording audio.
I mean I could also put it directly behind the bogie so most wind just flies past but how the hell am I gonna get there unmounting my camera/mic
I feel like this would be easier if you worked in maintenance rather than as a driver - then you have a reason to be looking under bogies and such.
It's really not a good mindset to be in if you're planning on doing something that will get you fired, before you even get the job...
Scrap the idea never use it again, forget getting fired, that would be the least of your worries in a bad situation, and don’t tamper with dangerous equipment (trains) when not authorised to do so. it falls off breaks something bad… not worth the risk at all no matter what, never mind it being for potential game audio… that is a disaster waiting to happen.
I mean this stuff does exist (though, its a different type of transit) but jeez alright best I can do is put my phone near the cab window then. you don't have to be so mean to me
yes people have done it when authorised to do so, only then is it acceptable, not talking about secretly tampering with a train.
I don't think anyone has been mean, but just giving you strong advise not to go through with this unofficially so that you don't lose the job before you get it.
IIRC someone who worked at BNSF did this and uploaded the videos YouTube. Then they I believe got fired later. However Pentrex ended up buying the footage and made them into a DVD series.
'Hate' is such a broad term here online, grow a thicker skin for your own sake... Plus AtherianKing has a good point you're talking about doing it on the sly rather than taking proper authorised procedure. Risky business. Best talking to people who do this kind of thing first.
