One thing that often makes me want to play TSC over TSW is that TSC has options for a minimal HUD while TSW has none. There is a built in option in TSC and also a 3rd party option that I use like CobraOne’s TSC Raildriver & Joystick Interface that has about every option imaginable for a minimal HUD. I find TSW’s HUD obnoxious and arcadey. With CobraOne’s TSC Raildriver & Joystick Interface minimal HUD I can set it up so I can see only what the upcoming track speeds are in a small text format that I can move anywhere on the screen. That way I can drive a new route that I don’t know the speed limits on without a bunch of huge font HUD items ruining the immersion.
I still prefer the MSTS and Open Rails pop up boxes which you can switch on or off as needed or tuck away so more discreet. Or Run 8 with its ticker tape display along the top of the screen. Even SimRail, for all its shortcomings in the SP department, has a better more discrete HUD design.
I've always dislike TSWs HUD. It's bigger and comsumes more screen space, but contains less useful information than TSC HUD. Looks like an arcade game. (Not saying TSW is an arcade game, just that the HUD looks like one from an arcade game). To make things worse, DTG seems only focussed on offering even bigger HUD options for console players (or anyone sitting at a distance from their screen), but ignoring requests to make a smaller HUD option for PC players (or anyone sitting at a desk pretty close to their screen). And since TSW:CSX:HH there's been no improvements on this part, I almost give up hope of ever seeing a more subtle and customizable HUD interface.
