I fought for the new route which will feature steam locomotives set in the late 1950s in Northwest England, since it's set on the LMS railway, I don't know if it will be strictly a steam route but could they add a few diesels like the LMS 10000 Class diesel locomotive which was Britain's first diesel locomotives which was built in 1947. The other diesel which also ran on the LMS which was the Fell locomotive which was built in 1951 and was withdrawn in October of 1958 and it was number 10100 and it had a wheel arrangement of a 4-8-4 and it think they would be great diesels for Train Sim World.
I quite like early diesels (and electrics) so I'd appreciate seeing them ingame. And a route with mixed late-steam and early-diesel traction would be nice as well. Sometimes it's lovely seeing the steam locomotives go by but you don't really feel like driving a steam locomotive yourself. :P
10000 and 10001 would be great though probably end up aliased to the Class 37 or 40 for sounds. Are there any recordings in existence to give an idea what they sounded like?
Not that I can think of but there is a old newsreel from 1947 about the 10000 and 101000 I'll leave a link to the video and I'll look up the engines they had in the locomotives. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...xa8BegQIDBAF&usg=AOvVaw3HoQHNxhhEqxBtCy7TZolF
Class 40 had the Mk2 version of this engine so probably similar. According to Wikipedia the Mk1 was also fitted to South Australian 900 Class. Off to check YouTube... Edit: And here we go: Train Enthusiast's Video Diary 1986-12-28 - YouTube Use that to guide your remix, DTG!
Of course I don't mind driving a steam locomotive, I just thought that we have a mixture of both steam and diesel to represent the transition era from steam to diesel. The steam locomotive I like to see run on this new route is the LMS 8p 4-6-2 for passenger trains.
the BR class 08 was being built during the time when Crewe - Liverpool is set.. Another version of the class 08 in BR black would have been nice.. Freight trains are coming with the 8F so a shunter would be nice.
This detailed video on Colonel Fell's engine was released a few days ago from the Shell Historical Film Archive - I wonder if the differentials proved more reliable than a gearbox.
DTG Alex please can you explain why the link to the Shell Historical Film Archive film has been removed.
