With a route length of around 55-60 miles, these lines all have an half hourly service from London Waterloo, with the commuter central of London being captured in this route with the inclusion of 2 new units. upload_2023-2-13_10-58-47.png

These dependable units are just entering their 41st year of service, with it still looking like they'll remain an essential part of the SWR network up until around 2025. These units operate many services, including trains to Guildford, Chessington South, Dorking, Hampton Court, the Waterloo circular services and many others that wouldn't play a major part in the timetable.

There were 24 of these well travelled units built in the early 1990s, with their final withdrawal coming on the 17th January 2022 (I travelled on a pair on their last day of service). They always travelled with Class 455's unless SWT/SWR we're having some real availability problems and sent out just a pair of 456's on their own. Before their transfer to the South West Side of London in 2014, they ran services for Southern between London Bridge & Victoria, but with the Overground taking over that service they found themselves no longer required by Southern.

Excellent idea and why not combine this with Portsmouth direct line. Because in some cases if the Portsmouth direct line were to be blocked between Suburbiton and Guildford Portsmouth direct line trains will then use New Guildford line as a diversion route to Guildford and then Normal route to Portsmouth from Guildford.

A definite yes from me. Awesome suggestion but should also include the short Hampton Court branch line. Please please please DTG or any of the partner program devs.

The Class 456 originally operated the Wimbledon to West Croydon shuttles when introduced on behalf of Network SouthEast South London Lines subsector. This would be a amazing route to bring in the future.

I'm not sure if I made it obvious enough in the post or not but part of the proposal would be to have the Hampton Court & Chessington branches included.

If you wanted more variety you you either add the Shepperton branch: Branches from new malden along the kingston loop till I belive Twickenham before going onto the Shepperton branch allowing 707 services and/or add the main SWML/PDL LW-GF via Woking to allow for class 159's, 450's and 444's!

Seconded this route for TSW3. Given how popular the BML route is, I think this would be the perfect choice for a "London Commuter 2". I'd like to see the full London Waterloo to Portsmouth Harbour route, plus the New Guildford Line diversion, and the Hampton Court branch.

I would absolutely love to see this. The 455s are really distinctive units (now I think the oldest in operation on the network) and make a lot of fun noises - very far from an Electrostar. I'd really like to see them in TSW before they're taken out of service.

Surbiton's gorgeous Art Deco station, Epsom's interesting crossover layout, and the big concrete flyover on the northbound slow line next to Wimbledon depot would be station highlights. The section south of Leatherhead through the Surrey Hills is beautiful, culminating in you driving through the middle of the Denbies vineyard just outside Dorking station. Including that kind of country running all the way into the incredibly busy London Waterloo in just an hour or so would be something very special, particularly with the characterful 455 units.

Fast running, commuter running, countryside area of natural beauty, and some of the busiest stations in the UK all in one route. A slam dunk, surely?

(The more I write, the more I can't believe this route hasn't been modelled in any train sim yet)

I count 29 stations altogether including Hampton Court and Chessington South branches and via Epsom and Oxshott which is towards the top limit of what we've seen before but I think feasible for a larger release (given a lot of the station furniture will be copy/paste). Clapham is of course already modelled.

The Southern 377 would also layer on between Epsom and Dorking and as AI at Clapham.

Good opportunity for a 444/450 Desiro DLC as well if the main route via Woking is included.

These are all splendid ideas - I'd really love to see this as a route.

455 isn't the oldest on the network yet - the 313 has that title up to May

I stand corrected! Would still be great to see these units in game before the reference material disappears...
