The train, as you can see from the images, is outwardly similar to the Trenitalia Pop as it is very different inside to offer a long-distance service. The new NEs will replace, among other things, the ordinary compositions with locomotives and carriages that are about to retire. The first trains will travel on the route Amsterdam - Rotterdam - Breda. So it will be the turn of the route The Hague - Eindhoven. In the future, NS also intends to implement the new Intercity trains on a new direct rail link from Breda and Rotterdam - via Amsterdam South - to Zwolle, Leeuwarden, Assen and Groningen.
