The following is quoted from the IOW Council Facebook page, the photo is a still from the video of it unloading. The Class 484 trains arrived on 19 November 2020 aboard a Wightlink ferry, and were unloaded at the Fishbourne terminal. These trains are former London Underground rolling stock that once ran on the District Line. The rest will be coming in the next few months, and are due to start work after improvements to the track have been completed in Spring 2021.
Photo attached from last night on test, it’s looking good. Not many photos around yet as it’s testing at night in an SPZ but it’ll be running up the miles in the coming weeks so I’m sure they’ll be available to sight soon.
Are they running with the 3rd rail or in diesel version ? The only remade version of the D78 stock I’ve seen was one train on test in diesel mode
Only if we get a reworked version of the route as there are a few alterations taking place before full service commencement.
I doubt it but you never know. I thought there were licensing issues with getting the Island Line liveries. There’s also the changes to the line and safety systems etc, so having this livery would never be authentic.
From January 4-March 31 2021, services on Island Line will be replaced by buses, whilst the work to upgrade the line’s infrastructure is carried out. Following these works, the Class 484 trains will be introduced into service, with the regular 30-minute service introduced in May 2021. https://www.southwesternrailway.com/destinations-and-offers/island-line
