Hello there everyone, I am not sure if this has been posted by anyone just yet. However, I have problems in regards to the Sand Patch Grade bit of the New Journeys Expansion on PS4. When doing the scenario with rescuing the failed train outside of Cumberland Yard or 'Earning Your Stripes', once I connect my CSX-s SD-40's to either freight cars or the failed train, I cannot manage to get the train going at all. Basically, the train's wheels start to spin. I have followed all the steps given in the scenarios themselves and even tried to turn on the Banking Comms, thinking it has anything to do with that. Can someone kindly enlighten me on what I could have done wrong, please? Thank you very much. Kind regards, Andrew.
I found the broken down train was set to lead or dead. Once I switched it to trail I could pull away, though it needs some patience
Two issues: one, as (the second) andrew says, you have to set up the failed locomotive for towing. Two, coupling to the failed train (usually) causes a PCS trip (this is a longstanding TSW bug)- so you have to recover from that and then wait for the brakes to recharge, which takes some time. You can't pull a train with its brakes clamped down!
Ah, ok. I understand what you mean. Of course you can't pull a train with its brakes activated. However, I still have a question. In the 'Earning Your Stripes' scenario, does the PCS thing happen when you connect to the freight cars also?
It can. This is a general problem with (in-game) American freight trains which TSW has had from the start. In real life, the air hoses are connected by hand, using anglecock connectors which allow the air to flow gradually into the parked cars' reservoirs. However, since TSW abstracts this so that the hoses magically connect themselves in an instant, they get full airflow immediately, at a rate which the PCS senses as "emergency braking," and so it trips. Maybe one day they'll fix it; for the time being it's a periodic annoyance (it doesn't happen all the time) with any American service that involves hooking up.
I understand where you are coming from. However, this problem is only on the new CSX-s SD-40 from the Sand Patch Grade expansion, as far as I can see it. I haven't had this problem at all on the Original Sand Patch Grade or on any other American route (the other one that uses freight trains and I own at this point in time is Peninsula Corridor).
Guys, thank you so much for your help. Last evening, I tried to do a scenario with the CSX-s SD-40 using the idea you suggested, which was about waiting for the brakes to charge back up after hooking up to the freight cars in "Earning Your Stripes", and it worked a treat. Thanks again. Kind regards, Andrew.
It would of course be desirable if DTG would include on every US freight loco both a working EOTD readout and a working airflow meter, but to date the former is only found on the GP38-2 and SD70ACe, and the latter only on the C40-8W.
