I know this has been brought up several times in the past but wanted to see what can be done and what options are there. We know that the Signalling is the main issue. Currently there are so many big gaps on the timetable that I'm not sure that it wouldn't be able to handle more services. I know Matt mentioned that they tried adding more but the signalling couldn't handle it. So with that said, what possible options are there that can bring a LIRR route to better represent the busiest railway in north America? I know there has to be some form of funding to get this rolling. Would a brand the LIRR loco DLC (M9) to include a route extention? I know it has been stated that extentions is something that was done once (SEHS) but is not profitable. A brand new LIRR route to include M3,M7 this new route would be base on 2023 Grand Central Madison and Penn station. I'm sure there would be questions about those of us that brought the previous LIRR,M3 DLC, what would we pay? M9 and C3 Bi-level coaches with DE30AC would be a separate purchase DLC. Either way I'm sure it would sell well, I believe the Demand is there and DTG should explored it.
I honestly think they should start from scratch and make a entire route how it is today. I be wondering why it still hasn’t been done. If they was to make a new LIRR I will like to see massive improvements to scenery, New more accurate NYC skylines, New third rail track after floral park with updated stations from New Hyde Park To Westbury, include the new Grand Central Madison, Elmont UBS Arena Stations & new platforms for the Atlantic Shuttle at Jamaica. Doing this will allow for more traffic and more services and make the route feel more fresh compared to the one we have now. Route should come with M3,M7,M9 & Possibly have the diesel as a add on. Have Amtrak and NJT as a layer.
This can work complete with Eastside access making Harold Interlocking busy. however your late-night schedule would be unique it's is that all trains run to Penn Station since Grand Central Eastside access is closed from 02:00-05:30 EST which means SEHS UK 07:00-10:30 while Schnellfahrstrecke Hannover Würzburg full name of KWG Köln Aachen GMT +6 08:00-11:30.
The Island Line 2022 DLC was a route rebuild disguised as a Loco DLC. If they could design an M9 that could also serve as the Harlem Line equivalent (not sure the name of that version) they could get two DLCs with one set of 3D modeling and physics. Then use the leftover resources from a “normal” Loco DLC to update the LIRR.
This is a fantastic idea and would absolutely make money. From a product development perspective, this makes all the sense in the world - the original route is a solid template and foundation to build upon. As was stated above, they can add GCM/ESA, Elmont, and the main line third track with the updated stations. Throw in the M9 and the bi-levels, and you’ve got yourself one attractive (and lucrative) US route.
For the Harlem Line, you are looking at the M9A. To make it easy on the Dev team they can do this LIRR & Metro-North Grand Central commuter pack. Both get M9A EMUs the LIRR 750v DC Top contact and M9A Metro-North 750V DC Third Rail Bottom contact. Keep in mind DTG needs to model the LIRR GCT hallway to Harlem Line tracks. 0700-10:30 uk time SPG OSD NEC Trenton to Boston Horseshoe Curve LIRR Harlem Line EST 02:00-05:30 LZN German routes 08:00-11:30 CET LIRR GCT is closed forcing the M9A LIRR to run Penn Station runs.
Also the new Grand Central Madison operations uses new area at sunnyside next to the current NJT and Amtrak tracks to store the trains during the day. If they do make a new LIRR route would include Penn station, Grand Central Madison, west side yard, sunnyside yard, Long Island city, hunterspoint avenue. Total passenger service would include 350 to and from Penn station, 292 to and from Grand central Madison. Amtrak and NJT would be layer in as AI.
This is a great idea and I think DTG should definitely rebuild the LIRR route from scratch. The potential is definitely there as the later DLC's have been getting better and better in terms of scenery/distance/signaling. With what has been learned about signaling over the years in TSW, I would really like to see America's busiest passenger railroad properly represented in TSW with the 2023 timetable. Currently, Metro North does not have an M9A but there were plans a few years ago to order them to replace the current fleet of M3A's. If we can get the LIRR route, I would like to see Harold Interlocking with trackage to Grand Central Madison mid day storage yard in LIC, Port Washington Branch, Oyster Bay branch, the main line to Ronkonkoma, Central Branch and Babylon branch east to Babylon. The Atlantic Branch would operate as a shuttle between Atlantic Ave-Barclays Center and terminate on Tracks 11 & 12 at Jamaica.
LIRR is a very important route and deserves a lot of attention. I will be happy if DTG will rebuild it. I'm looking forward to it. After all, it can be rebuilt in the image of high speed. However, the route can be slightly extended (it would be great to get an extension to Ronkonkoma, Babylon and a branch line to Port Washington). The thought that it could have a schedule similar to the Brighton line makes me ecstatic. Sooner and later, DC 30 and M9 should appear. The highlight of the schedule will be cargo services with MP15 or SW1000R. This is a first day purchase.
I agree. The busiest North America railway needs some love..Here's a couple of maps that shows current services. This would be epic
With Joe adding the (500+services)LIRR layer to NYT dlc it shows the potential for either an update or new LIRR dlc would look like. I did some figuring and this would be a 2023 LIRR timetable with Gran Central Madison, Penn station and Atlantic avenue. Would like this DLC to be extended to Huntington, Ronkonkoma, and Babylon. So here are the estimates of services: LIRR Penn station 350 Grand Central Madison 292 Atlantic avenue 168 LIC- 24 Dead head/SSY/WSY-100 Amtrak/Acela/NJT/SSY AI- 675 Total services with all layers and AI- 1,609 services Again this is just a rough estimation. The funding for this would come in the form of a pay DLC (new route to include M3,M7,M9)and pay loco DLC (DM30AC with C3 bilevel cars) similar to what was done with NYT DLC with the Acela. We would have all the required equipment in the game to make this a complete route.
Definitely a great idea. With Joe revamping the timtable for the NYT route allowing for more train traffic ft. LIRR, I really hope this is an indication that we will see a new LIRR DLC in the near future
I generally dont like or support the idea of relaunching routes, however if done right LRR Mk2 would certainly find a home in my collection.
I don’t have much to add other than what we already know. It’s one of the most important commuter railroads in the US, just by the pure volume of people it brings to work 5 days a week, all the people it brings into the city for weekend fun, all the people it brings from the city to Long Island beaches, etc. Don’t know when but I definitely expect it to be revisited at some point. Tbh I’ll settle for working safety systems and a busy timetable but I’d hope they’d go with some of the previous posters’ suggestions as well.
I don't think LIRR needs to be made over from scratch. It can be rebuilt or overhauled, maybe in a similar way to SEHS, with additional rolling stock, new timetable and signalling and improved lighting and sound. Obviously this would have to be a paid dlc or part of a TSW4 launch package.
Would be nice to have a scenery overhaul too. TSW is the top image, TS Classic is the bottom image in these comparisons below. Ignore the lighting differences, just the scenery is so bland and in many cases inaccurate in the TSW version.
Ok so time to have some fun with possibilities for a new LIRR DLC route. So I was thinking instead of redoing a LIRR towards Hicksville why not so make it to the Babylon branch. So on this new DLC LIRR NYC-Babylon would have 31 stations. All LIRR services would be playable from Grand Central, Penn Station, Long Island City, and Atlantic Terminal. The Port Washington branch would go as far as woodside. the Port Jefferson, Hempstead, Montauk, Oyster bay, Ronkonkoma branch, would go as far as Jamaica. Atlantic Terminal services would be playable to Jamaica and Valley stream. The west hempstead and far rockaway branch would be playable up to Valley stream. Long beach branch would be playable up to Lynbrook. And finally the Babylon branch is a complete run. Most services to Babylon would be an average of 1 hour and 5 minutes long. I didn't include any other branches since would required more stations. I figured 31 is already pushing it. The new route LIRR NYC- Babylon route would include the M3,M7,M9)and pay loco DLC (DM30AC with C3 bilevel cars).Anyways This all for fun and probably will never happen Services: LIRR Penn station 350 Grand Central Madison 292 Atlantic avenue 168 LIC- 24 Dead head/SSY/WSY-100 Layers: Amtrak/Acela/NJT/SSY AI- 675 Total services with all layers and AI- 1,609 services
I would also like to join in and voice my interest in a new LIRR addon that explores a new branch, with enhanced scenery and the inclusion of M9 stock. The busiest railroad in the Americas should be given justice, with all the new improvements TSW has had since 2018. Also, just out of curiosity, what addons/mods/tweaks do you use to get the game to look like that, if any where used??? These pictures look great!
TSW is a bunch of INI Tweaks, similar to others you’ll find around. Can’t get my full list at the moment, as I’m away from my PC for a bit. TS Classic is RWE Pro and AP Weather 2.0, honestly it looks much better than TSW a lot of the time.
Good morning DTG JD. Would it be possible to move this Thread over to suggestions. Want to keep this conversation going but want to have it where it belongs. Thanks
spot on but Grand Central terminal LIRR is closed during the late nights which means all late night trips run to Penn station from 02:00-05:30
Here's a video of a LIRR M3 front window Babylon to Penn station complete run to show how it would look
if anything from that area was going to happen i put money on North Jersey Coast Line before anything as it would be good to see more NJ Transit stuff added this would be a great route as well but just think that NJCL Makes more of a fit
How about something unique like the Raritan Valley Line it's 20-30 minutes from where I live in Easton Pennsylvania
Any rebuilt LIRR route has to include some Diesel territory. M9s are practically identical to M7s, both their appearance and operation and don't really offer anything new. Not saying it wouldn't be nice to have M9s as well, but diesels are a must. The M9As are not an option because they dont exist yet and they haven't even been designed. On the other hand, DE/DM30ACs would add an entirely new experience of LIRR operations to the sim. Oyster Bay branch would be ideal since it branches off the Mainline at Mineola, which is already part of the existing route. Also features some nice grades to make for a challenge and automatic block signaling system with no automatic speed control. Very scenic route as well and wouldn't take as long to create given the simplistic design of the stations compared to the stations along the Babylon and Port Wash branches.
They should do the updated Nostrand Ave LIRR station & a new switching tracks east of Floral Park on the Hempstead branch as well.
