As the current scoring system in TSW 4 is beyond broken (I mean, whatever happened to needing 90% of the available AP to get a Platinum medal), I think DTG should simplify things. Instead of having a score, you should receive penalties whenever you do something wrong. Penalties could be issued for speeding, missing a station, failing to use safety systems correctly e.g. getting an AWS Emergency Brake. Platinum medals should only be awarded to those with zero penalties, Gold to those with 1-2 penalties, Silver to those with 3-4 penalties and Bronze to those with 5 penalties. Any number of penalties from 6 or higher results in no medal. Safety systems could be reserved for an expert tier if deemed too unfair to be included as standard.
May work, but possibly could come under the same issues, and creating an entirety new scoring system seems like time what many would probably argue is better spent elsewhere personally I think the current didn’t change much from the old, I’ve always thought the medals are either too easy or it’s a bug and unachievable.
I personally want a score toggle like the one in tsc where you don't get a medal, but instead get a checkmark stating you completed the route as long as you complete the objectives
Scoring would be better if every run had a baseline of 1000 like TSC and the acquisition or removal of points revolved around that. But never more than 1000 regardless of the run or scenario. It has always been ridiculous that you can get three times as much AP with a 35 minute run on the Bakerloo Line, than 90 minutes wrestling a freight across Clinchfield or SPG. Like Rennekton I don’t particularly want or need to score points in a simulation, but it is frustrating despite everything else I’ve played to death, the game still decides to rank Bakerloo Line and the 1972 stock as my favourite, simply down to the disproportionate AP. Maybe something I should add to DTG’s New Year Resolution list, for the EP to consider.
AP points? Does that stand for Absolutely Pointless points? They just keep getting bigger to the point where they don’t fit on the screen. What’s my point? There is no point, I’d just like to point that out.
