Overview: I love New York - Trenton, but unfortunately, it kind of sucks. This mainly comes down to the myriad of bugs, poor optimization, and the low quality scenery. I think this route deserves the LIRR treatment and needs a complete overhaul, and a potential expansion. The Overhaul As stated before, a lot of the route needs work. To start off, there are still tons of bugs that have never been fixed. The route also needs some serious optimization as it is way laggier than it should be. And of course, the scenery needs a complete overhaul, especially the section between New York and Newark Airport; that section should probably be remade from scratch. The Expansion Just like with LIRR, I think an expansion would go great with the overhaul. I think the best decision would be to add the North Jersey Coast Line, along with Hoboken Terminal. This would add about 40 additional miles of track, and allow for some unique gameplay. Hoboken Terminal is a pretty major station for NJ Transit, so it would make sense to add it. And what makes the North Jersey Coast Line especially unique is the fact that the electrification ends part way. Of course we don’t have any diesel NJ Transit locomotives yet, so this leads me right into my next part. Rolling Stock A must have locomotive to add would be the ALP-45. It looks similar to the ALP-46, only it’s a single cab unit, and is dual mode. This allows it to switch to diesel power to continue past where electrification ends. Another addition would be the Comet V cars. These are single level cars commonly used on the North Jersey Coast Line. This will greatly help to add some variety to the rolling stock available. Conclusion These additions and changes would help make New York - Trenton a fantastic route! This route has a ton of potential, and I would hate to see it go to waste.
I do agree on NYT needing a bit of a remaster, including another attempt at adding CSAO freight services in again. That said, I think the expansions would be better off as individual routes. Adding Hoboken into NYT would be a bit of a waste, since trains out of Hoboken only share the NEC for a brief portion, and trains to and from Trenton and Long Branch/Bay Head do not serve it directly. I think the NJCL all the way down to Bay Head would be a great DLC, and I still quite enjoy the TSC version. As you noted we could have the ALP45DP for the dual mode operations on the route. For a route that could feature both Hoboken, NYP, and the MMC, the Gladstone Branch would be a good option for DLC, at a bit over 40 miles in length. This would be a good chance to get Arrow EMU's added to the game, especially since their retirement is quickly approaching. For a diesel NJ Transit route, the Pascack Valley line could be a good option, especially if the branch to the Meadowlands is added. At 30 miles long you'd get services out of Hoboken, and DTG could leverage their MTA license to add the Metro-North equipment for the WOH services. This would get us both NJT and Metro-North comets, as well as the ALP45DP or unique PL42AC. This route also still sees Geeps and Metro-North F40's, which could make for good DLC possibilities.
I agree as well NYT is in need of an update to TSW5 standards and the Scenery around Newark is in need of modernizing for sure. I would push that the Morris & Essex aka Midtown Direct line would be one of the best additions for NJT. It goes all the way from Hackettstown, NJ to NYP and Hoboken. It also would have a mix of diesel and electric including the switch oth electrical voltages.
Can't see new York - Trenton getting an Expansion but a upgrade to run smoother. The ALP 45 and cab car probably deserves its own route then be available to layer on to new York Trenton.
Really excellent proposal and if you want New York City with a diesel action the Raritan Valley Line I've suggested it because it also use the same Rolling Stock as the north Jersey coastline Bay Head to New York runs
I genuinely wish for an ALP-45, but knowing DTG, it probably won't happen for a very.. very long time.
a nice loco, tho I would prefer sth like Siemens does with Chargers, I think - you got diesel loco with ability to go dual-mode, with power car with panto somewhere along the consist, allowing the train to go onto electrified lines
these look so good https://www.trains.com/trn/news-rev...rth-introduces-siemens-dual-mode-locomotives/
The Airo trainsets are still pretty early in production, and you won't see them on the NEC for a few years at least. The Metro-North chargers are going to be used exclusively on East of Hudson services, with the chances of them popping up in NJT territory being slim to none.
Not a lot, mostly CSAO and NS and not the full lengths of the routes. Certainly not enough to go crazy adding services in aside from some freight layers.
