I am new to TSW2 on PC and did good with the ICE train and the Bakerloo Underground. However playing the Powering America Part 1 I have wasted 10 hrs trying to get this scenario to function properly. My issues so far: 1. When I set up the engine and follow the instructions to release the Automatic Brake and Give it power the message in the upper box never cleats. The train moves but you get no change when in the menu you look at schedule, it is like you did not perform the task. 2. When you have the train in slow speed control and the coal starts going into the car hoppers you get no icon showing the status of the coal loading. The previous message is still shown regsrding brake release and throttle. 3. When done when you change the switch at the far end and the trsin diverts so you san back up to go to the cumberland Yard the sceen says out of range and ends the game. If you back up after filling the coal cars there is no where to go as the track ends. 4. You can not move the train on the other track so you could pass it. All thst happens is the engines rev but the train does not move. This is my problems. I hsve issues with scenarios on the Clinchfield run dealing with incoupling cars and moving them around. Powering America went fsirly well but in the middle of the scenario it showed that there was 15 miles to ho and it never changed till after I was stopped at a red signal then it was erratic at best. I spent a long time playing it and then missed the Red signal at the end so it was game over. Why the programmers did not put a provision to allow you to save as you choose at various points in the scenario like you can do in Adventure Games. Having to start over at the beginning of a 2hr scenario is not fun. I like the game but these frustrating issues will keep me from buying anymore DLCs till issues are resolved and the sims are playable.
The Powering America bug is well-known; do a forum search to find a couple of workarounds. Basically it takes some diddling to convince the game you've released the brake. And from that point, the objectives will not advance, so you get the results you've stated. BTW, you can save. Pause Menu, S-key.
You have to make sure that the framerate exceeds 30fps, before releasing the brake I set everything from ultra to low quality and voila you can go the next step.
Hello new old Dave, Let me first say, I feel ya dude. I have been here for about 2 years give or take. I hit all those problems you mentioned. I know where the stuck at 15 miles thing is, etc. Learning to drive trains has been a fascinating and pleasurable thing to do - and I hope you get to enjoy it eventually. I don't want to discourage you, but my advice is to log some time on the things that do work, then later go fiddle around with the broken ones (if you care to ). I believe the timetable routes work better than the scenarios. That is not always true, but generally speaking I have found it to be true enough. The timetables typically expect you to setup everything on your own so there is no watchdog code in there to get itself balled up. Another benefit to the less instructional timetables is you can do your own research on how to set it up - versus chasing all over Youtube hunting down workarounds for 5 year old bugs. Probably a better way to spend your time if you care about driving trains instead of trying to understand how the software business works. On the topic of "releasing the brake," anytime you are being given instructions for setting things up, it is best (generally) to do the setup in the cab using the actual controls. There are a couple or three places where the programs get lost if you use your controller, or make the change out of sequence from what the program expects. I could say a lot more about the development and support from this company but I don't want to get banned from this site. I hope you stick around and find a way to enjoy it. Just remember, we live in the Bill Gates era- who taught the world ".. nothing has to work, it can always be promised in the next rev., or an update, so just get it out there and let your customers start testing it...." I think the medical industry is adopting that practice also.
Thanks for the reply. I will try the save method you mentioned. I love the game as the graphics are good but I seem to run into the various brake issues. I will keep plodding along. Hopefully the save will make debugging take less time. Happy tsw2ing
Thanks for tha great tip. I will go and lower the quality settings and hopefully I csn then finish some of the scenarios that I have been unable. Happy TSW2ing and thanks a bunch for the reply.
Ha ha ha. I really enjoyed your reply and you make good points on scenarios vs timetable games. Also your suggestion to play the ones that work and have gun and if a glitch pops up just move on and deal with the issue later. I have switched to using a gaming keyboard as I find it works better for me on the game rather than using my Xbox Elite Series one controller. iI get your message loud and clear about not wanting to rattle too many cages and end up being banned from the forum. I will now go off to rnjoy another route. I have no issues with the graphics or fps frame rates. My issues were more like when you get a new 4K UHD Blueray and six months later it freezes and pixelates. Modern technology is great but obviously not perfect. Rnjoy your TSW2ing and thanks so much for the reply and sage wisdom.
I am amazed. You my man are a genius. Setting everything to low quality did indeed solve the problem. The game recognized that the Independent Brake was off and when I gave it power it crept up to the coal loading zone. The icon showing the status of the coal loading returned. I guess some of the scenarios tolerate the higher settings more than others. Somehow a notice at the beginning of the scenario saying if such and such happens try this. Ha ha ha but that will not happen. Again a thousand thanks for your reply that solved my problem with the Powering America Part 1 Scenario. Woo Hoo…. I am playing it now.
