Hi ,I was doing last run from Paddington in HST 23.00 and think that the lighting should be tweaked? When driving with cab light off and night lights on ( obviously )you can't see anything outside however if you put cab light on it looks more realistic like a night time after your eyes become accustomed to the dark .. surely with the cab light on you should just get reflection in the windshield.
This has been brought up many times before and even acknowledged by DTG at least as far back as January, I have not heard of any work being done on a fix sadly. https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/headlights-do-not-light-up-enough-ground.3098/
Unfortunately I think you've hit the nail on the head...rather disappointingly DTG doesn't seem to do 'after sales' with their games....so I wouldn't hold your breath.
This forum feels like DTG gave us their phone number and said “if you have any problems, just call us any time, we won’t answer”. The more I play the game, the more I find it's broken, the less I want to play it.
Yes but that is how it is in real life. The headlights on the trains aren’t designed or supposed to light the area in front of you. There are actually just so other drivers and people can see when a train is coming from a distance.
What trains are you referring to? Every train I've seen has an incredibly bright headlight that lights up the tracks for a LONG way.
To be clear I’m just referring to British trains and maybe some German trains. I’m not particularly familiar with American trains. Here’s an example:
This is what i was thinking.. But his video seemed to prove what he said, wonder where he found that vid, unless he got permission to go in a drivers cab..
Who mentioned American trains though? But seriously what trains have you been seeing because you can honestly see a trains headlamps from more than a mile off
I'm the one who brought American trains into this, and maybe I'm wrong in assuming that "all" trains have bright headlights, I am only familiar with American trains, and I can assure you they have REALLY bight headlights. If other trains around the world have very dim to no headlights, which this one video seems to show, then the sim should model it accurately, and the same for trains that have bright headlights. I would sure like to know the reasoning for such dim illumination, just doesn't seem safe.
I can say from playing this game, the GP38 has brighter lights than the GP40. You can really tell on a night scenario, it's a big difference.
Appendix 3 for those interested. In the UK lights are primarily for identification, not illumination. Part B in the following document- "This standard contains the mandatory visibility requirements for the leading vehicle of a train, so that its approach can be detected in sufficient time for people on or near the line to recognise that it is a train and to move to a position of safety. The standard also mandates the visibility requirements for the rear of a train so that it can be seen in adequate time by the driver of a train or locomotive approaching it from the rear." https://www.rssb.co.uk/rgs/standards/GMRT2483 Iss 1.pdf
Original poster has got a point though. Headlamps and tail lamps, whilst not used to aid the drivers vision, should be seen from a distance. In TSW, this isnt the case where in reality whether it be day or night, train headlamps are seen coming from a distance.
