Ok, I don't want to complain too much, but something just doesn't feel right. I bought TSW4 Standard Edition, because Deluxe included 2 locos I'm not really that interested in and a route I already own. I knew well enough that means I also had no access to early access, and I thought I'd be fine with that. But now the day has come that people can enjoy TSW4 and I'm kinda looking forward to do the same. Now I know it's all marketing strategy to encourage people to spend more. But as a loyal customer who has been playing and buying DTG products for TSC as well as TSW1/2/3, didn't I already spend enough? Couldn't you really afford to make early access available to Standard Edition pre-orders as well?

I know it's business. I knew in advance I wouldn't get my early access, but still it doesn't feel completely fair... just wanted to get that off my heart.

    Welcome to 21st Century gaming.

Im guessing when ‘early access’ became a thing, publishers saw sales & pre-orders spike, and thus we now live with every other game having it. It’s not really early access, it’s just that the ‘cheap’ version of a game comes out later.

Personally the deal works out for me since I’d of bought the Vectron, I’m not interested in the Scotsman, but the maroon Mk2’s are nice to have & I don’t mind seeing the loco as the odd AI piece.

I don’t think EA should be a thing, the release date should be a release date, not the ‘oh you paid less so you wait a week’ BS.

to be fair, even with the EA, we don’t have the majority of our collection so the content is quite bare at the moment.

I feel bad for you now. I hope you feel better now that it is off your heart.
You can take comfort in the fact that some of the bugs are likely going to be fixed by the time you get your hands on it.
You could also take comfort in your existing TSW routes. Southeastern Highspeed is a great one to revisit!
You could also take comfort in my pain if you like! I started downloading TSW4 at 6 pm yesterday. 16 hours later, and I'm 75% downloaded! Two patches have come out since then! TWO! (I think)

Oh no need to. It's not *that* bad. Just doesn't feel quite right either. :)

Heh, not looking forward to the download either. I assume Steam release will be available tuesday evening, so I'll spend the entire evening downloading and installing. Have to work on wednesday so I'll not have the time to play until wednesday evening. Not ideal, but I'll survive. It's not the first time for a tuesday-evening release, seems to be a common thing on Steam. :)

    Welcome to modern gaming.

I know it is meant to be a bonus for those who spend extra on the more expensive version, but I can't help but feel that it is the standard release date for "the aristocracy" and the "poor peasants" who can't/won't spend extra for the deluxe edition get to play later.

Because at that point, the game is done. All you're doing is monetizing the desire to be part of the Day One crowd. And if you look at the performance of other titles, it's clearly working to bring in extra revenue, so I would expect it to become the new standard for upcoming game releases.

Well, dont feel too bad about early access, most of the times you wont get the final release version anyway. A day one patch is 9 in 10 times only available on release date itself.

I see this early access as a last minute paid for beta test, not that I mind with the discount.

Not going to get the full on experience until everything else comes across on the 26th, which I am really not going to look forward to the download time for that little lot.

The thing is, if I would've spent less money in the past, I wouldn't have owned Nahverkehr Dresden already, and I would've purchased Deluxe Edition instead.

So, I have spent more money at the game, just not at the right time. That's the weird thing about it that just feels wrong.

Think about how much fun you had with Dresden. Does this not justify the price?

I don't regret my purchase. Had plenty of fun with it. However, since I didn't spend my money at the right time, I'm left out of early access. And that's what this topic is about. Just doesn't feel completely fair.

I don’t like early access. If the game is ready to play let everyone play. But this is definitely the way things are trending with the gaming industry where people that buy the more expensive versions play earlier. Starfield just did the same thing.

I have the early access so I’m playing around with TSW4 but if it makes you feel any better none of us really get the full experience until the 26th anyway. Currently with early access you can only play the new routes and can’t install the older DLC so many layers are missing.

Well, I wasn't overly concerned about the early access I just thought the Deluxe Edition was a better value. The way the weekend is gonna go, I won't be able to log that much playing time anyway.

On the other hand, one of life's greatest lessons is: You get what you pay for. That extra $15 gets you quite a lot, 2 locos and a route rework.

Cheer up. It's only 4 short days 'till full release. ;)

2 locos I'm not really interested in and a route rework I'm getting as a free update since I already own the TSW3 version of the route.

I know, I don't really mind waiting a few more days (have been waiting ever since TSW4 announced), but I'm just bad at dealing with situations that don't feel fair to me. Hence the topic. Not that much of an issue, but bothered me enough to feel the need to voice my thoughts.
