So, we finally have the Acela! I'm so glad that we finally have it, but there is 1 issue that seems to have come out of nowhere. Apparently the Acela's sounds in the upcoming DLC are reused from fanrailer's Acela enhancement pack. Now I'm not sure if this is true as DTG has recorded sounds for the Acela, and from what I've heard I can't tell if it is reused, however if this is true then that's a big problem for me. I'm still not sure if this is true, but if someone from DTG's sees this could you reassure me that you guys aren't reusing sounds?
Remember that it was explicitly Work In Progress. Don't lose hope yet. But yeah, I too sure hope they use the real Acela sounds in the final product.
You are right. Ill keep my hopes high, plus ill still have the Acela in the game, but I do hope that they use the sounds that they recorded in Wilmington!
I've done some sound comparison with fanrailers sound mod and it is similar. Who knows, maybe the sounds were updated but considering it's less than 2 weeks away and what wip means, I doubt it will be changed. There's already some modders waiting to create a sound mod once the acela is released
One thing that makes me think these aren't reused sounds is that on FanRailer's Acela modpack when you start to move you can hear the faint ding of a steel bell as opposed to these sounds, but then again the only sound of the Acela starting from stop is at that beginning part, and it gets revved up pretty quickly.
So, I've listened to the sound's in the modpack and compared them to the sounds in the video, and from what I've heard, in the modpack when listening to the audio file "Fan Start.wav" you can hear the steel bell sound in the background as the fan starts. In the video you never hear that steel bell sound, so I DON'T believe that DTG's reused the sounds. I could be wrong, but let me know if you find anything else!
i just finish watching the stream, and according from what Matt said these are all the sound that the team recorded during the time back then when don't were actually in NYC recording trip, getting the source for i believe the first Northeast Corridor route for Amtrak for TSW, so i believe that the sound is the real actual recording.
Thanks for the info! I do believe that Dovetail Games did record the audio, and that the rumor I heard was just false, but we never know! All I know is that so far the audio sounds great!
I think due to how short the audio clip was and some people's experience with tsc and fan railers sound mod, there were probably many similarities, so were assumed it was similar. Here is the link to fan railers sound mod. Start at around 2:50 and compare it to dtg's acela video and it sounds similar.
If you go to Amtrak Matt's Twitter account, and scroll down to 2017, you can see pictures from their reference trip in Washington DC
Idk where these rumors come from. The sounds came from a variety of sources (I don't have a list). A friend of mine got me several recordings mostly for the horn and bell that I'm pretty certain got used. He rides in the Acela pretty frequently and said the train sounds really good overall. When I got my cab ride back in November, I was able to record sounds for the safety systems. Those sounds got used and also got ported over to the ACS-64. I was also able to provide traction/acceleration sounds from that which I'm pretty sure got used to fine-tune the spooling up/spooling down of the traction motors, balance the sound of the blowers, etc.
If you look up schnauzapowahzs ( probably spelled it wrong) video, he says the sounds are really poor and there's a comment where a modder says it's the tsc and fan railers trainset. So idk
i mean at this point is there anything I can even say that will correct this? I'll just say - it's the recordings we took in Washington, combined with a number of additional files coming from members of the beta community who are helping, some of whose sounds you may be familiar with already. To say this is a rip of TS1 sounds is flat out wrong. But, I'm probably talking to a wall and will stop here. matt.
You're good. I believe you. Just that some people over on YouTube have said it is a rip off of ts1. Can't really tell if they're just exaggerating/ complaining just for the point of it or being real.
Honestly I don't even get the original thought behind the post. Even if they were reused sounds, is that really a problem if the reused sounds are good/accurate? Turth to be told, I don't really care where the sounds come from, either they are from another similar locomotive recording or synthetized, as long as they sound right. But anyway glad to hear DTG could finally use their recording they took many years ago. I really hope the Acela will turn out good, would love to blast it around Boston.
Originally the post was just asking a question, but it turned into a bit more than that. Probably should have worded it better but it is what it is. Can't wait for the Acela though!
Here's the video if you want to look at it yourself. There's also another comment somewhere that I saw but couldn't find.
