The Norfolk Southern Chicago Line is one of the busiest freight lines east of the Mississippi River. With an average of 70-100 freight trains per day, this is a must have route in my opinion. Starting at Indiana Harbor Belt Railway Clearing Yard, this route includes, multiple Amtrak Stations, the port of Chicago, the massive Gary Steel Works, numerous industries in small towns, the massive Elkhart Hump yard, as well as freights traveling at 60 MPH(120 KPH).

It’s also not just NS that runs on this route. CPKC runs trackage rights on this route.

All types of traffic runs on this line. This includes locals, steel trains, autos, intermodel, mixed freight, grain, coal, and passenger trains. The variety in traffic on this route will make it a great TSW route in my opinion.

If set during the early 90s during the Conrail days rolling stock should include C40-8W, SD40-2, GP38-2, and Amtrak F40PH.
