Title self explanatory, we need it really.

Doing a run on the AVL yesterday evening it becomes apparent just how quiet the cab is without it. Even if the DS isn’t talking directly to you, the engineer/driver would be party to any conversations on the channel.

TSC had it - the famous “Dan Hernandez”.

Run 8 has it, well at least V2 though they didn’t carry across to V3. That maybe could be the issues that the railroad companies don’t want their real life staff performing as unpaid actors in a train sim but that’s never been confirmed.

So in addition to putting the suggestion out there (as in one of the R8 clips, “Brian, you out there?”), I also invite DTG or one of their US associates to comment as to why this quintessential feature of American railroading has never been implemented.

Didn't Sand Patch Grade have radio chatter?

Possibly, would have to check but certainly nothing since.

Yes, it does, on a few, not all.
Sand Patch -> Clear Cut Scenario has a bit of chatter on the radio at the start, and fully fueled has the dispatch conversation, but that is about it.
Cane Creek -> AC4400CW Timetable -> LDP46-A to Moab Raise the volume, and all you get is static or sounds like it.
and Sherman Hill Granite Quarry - Laramie Same thing, Same AC4400CW just UP branding
But yes, I agree 100% with you OldVern
All they would need is a couple of CB radios, and record some chatter, even if it was an indoor antenna in two different rooms.

Put the idea in your head over in the Trainz thread, didn't I, Vern? lol

I'd like to see this implemented (or re-implemented if it was on SPG; I still for the life of me don't remember it then), but you also made a good point over in the other thread about licensing the voices in the chatter. Honestly, I'd just be happy with the occasional crackle of static or chirping of tones.

In a perfect world (spoiler alert, it's not...) I'd really like to see talking defect detectors for some of the routes that have them IRL. I wouldn't even need the full axle count or anything, just an abbreviated "(*insert freight road here*) DETECTOR, MILE POST (*whatever*), NO DEFECTS, REPEAT, NO DEFECTS, DETECTOR OUT"

It was indeed your Trainz post that spurred me on!

Now Run 8 does indeed include the talking defect detectors and on at least one occasion had the voice shouting at me, “Stop your train, stop your train!”, which induced a huge adrenaline surge. Think I’d forgotten to release a handbrake or something there was certainly a haze of smoke around the affected car!

Nothing like a good hot box to catch your attention lol

I was on an Amtrak Empire train a few years back that tripped a detector going up to Albany. I'm guessing it was a false alert or something dragging because the conductor wasn't down on the track for very long before we were back on our way.

Yeah Sand Patch Grade had little snippets of unintelligible radio chatter. I liked that, it gave an additional sense of life to the route. Sand Patch was the first route I played in this game and I was disappointed it wasn't on any other route.
