Has anyone managed to complete the 5th & 6th timetables of chapter 8 of the Journey mode, which are both - Through Freight Edge Hill to Basford Hall?

They start in the north of the map and the journey south is fine until you get to the end. The second to last instruction is a "Go Via" goods line instruction. This is immediately in front of a red signal.

The last instruction is to stop at Basford Hall section D, which appears to be a siding behind the train requiring a reverse. The signal to the rear of the train won't clear and contacting the signaller gives the train off path message. The train only just fits between the front and rear signal.

I've never seen a "Go Via" used in this situation when a stop and reverse is needed - Should the second to last instruction been a "Stop" instruction?

Go via instead of stop is also on other services. There's a service with the jubilee where it says go via through a buffer instead of stop which you're actually supposed to do in order to reverse the train. In terms of the other issues you've explained, I haven't played the service yet.

Now fixed. The coupling fix seems to keep the train more stretched out, so on the second to last instruction, the rear of the train no longer passes the rear signal (by half a wagon length). This then allows the reverse to be completed.

I’m struggling with this on PS5. I get the ‘off path’ warning and then cannot proceed. Is the secret to this to not go all the way to the ‘Go Via’ point and stop a bit early? I notice it triggers complete a bit early too. It looks to me that the next path you need to take is the junction immediately behind the train but that isn’t very far from the signal. So do I have to be very precise and get the end of the train between the junction and the signal because that seems like a very tight spot? I’ve noticed the junction for the path I need to take next is set wrong after passing the signal and if that path was set correctly surely the signal would clear anyway. It’s not a manual junction.

In any case these services need looking at by DTG because just triggering the ‘Go Via’ which really should be a ‘Stop At’ point anyway, should allow the player to complete the service without there being a secret knack to figure out. It definitely isn’t fixed if that’s still the case.

Prior to the recent update, on my first attempt I got caught out by the "go via" right in front of the red signal. On further attempts I was eventually able to stop on the marker to trigger the completion of the second to last task. This was difficult due to the proximity of the marker to the red signal and the derailing issue where any harsh braking sent the train into orbit.

I thought DTG were going to stop putting markers that required inch perfect stops in right in front of red signals - someone at DTG obviously did not get the memo! When I eventually managed to stop in the right place. I found my train stuck between two red signals with no space to move front or rear. Because the train had "buffered up" under braking and I was facing slightly uphill, even just releasing the brakes caused the couplings to slacken and the rear wagons to roll back slightly and SPAD the red signal to the rear.

Even If I got chance to contact the signaller before the SPAD I got the train off path message. I gave up at this point after many attempts. I even got to the point at one stage where reloading a save would send the train instantly into orbit!.

Following the update, I decided to try again even, though there was no specific mention in the patch notes. On both of the chapter 8 runs I was able to stop at the Go via marker without derailing. This time the rear of my train had not passed the rear red signal. I had about half a wagon length before the rear of the train completely passed the rear red signal. I assume the wagons don't buffered up so much or its possible that DTG have added an extra wagon to the consist to make the train slightly longer.

As the train was still technically in the previous section I was able to complete the reverse for the last task without having to contact the signaller to pass the rear red.

If I get chance I will try these again and post some screenshots

I managed to complete one of these services. I was correct in my interpretation of the above in that I did have to stop with the end of the train between the junction and the shunting signal, the distance between the two being around half the length of the brake van. It was tricky to get it to stop exactly in that small target and afterwards the blue route didn’t actually show up, only the destination target, as I had to move up a small amount after the ‘go via’ had triggered to clear the junction, but all the automatic junctions were aligned correctly so I made it.

TrainSim-Matt this is a tricky bug for you. If the player is lucky or knows the ‘trick’ described here, the services are doable but if you just play normally and happen to stop with the end of the train not inside the very small target area the final reverse is not possible. Can you take a look. The most likely result from my tries on these services is the end of the train passes the small signal at the rear and the game thinks you are off path and you can only SPAD or quit. The other result is that the end of the train isn’t past the junction which then won’t change. Players won’t know how to get exactly in between these two points and the compression of the train can move the end of the train by near to half a wagon length making it extra tricky if you do know. It is also a ‘Go Via’ instruction when you actually stop so even before this you are confused.

I don't believe this is fixed as I've just wasted my time trying to complete such services and failed on both attempts. The first was in daylight but in an attempt to stop at the last go via (?) at Bradford Hall, I overshot and went through the red. The second attempt was the other service in journey mode but this time at night. Here I managed to trigger the go via but didn't go through red. I have a red light in front and a red light behind with no path to get to the target. Holding circle to contact the signaller has no effect. Frustrating!
