I have the simplest of timetables set up on my own route involving a single service for testing paths which I sometimes run AI and sometimes as a player train. This works as expected on much of the route but in one area the points only change for me automatically when they are set to having a Manual Lever!! If changed back to Automatic mode with no lever they don’t change under instructions from the dispatcher and the service running as AI or Player train gets effectively stuck at that point. I must have set something up incorrectly but these junctions appear to have identical settings to those which switch as you would expect in Auto mode. If anyone can suggest anything that might cause such odd behaviour I’d be very grateful.
Automatic points will require a signal somewhere between the start of the path and the points. Otherwise they won't do anything. Without any more details from you, I think this is the most likely explanation.
Thank you, that makes a lot of sense so I will definitely be adding some extra signals. I was convinced I’d managed to have points change where there were no signals in the past but I may have just been lucky. The way I’ve played around with junctions and signals has been a bit random. That they can appear to get changed automatically when set to Manual makes it all the more confusing.
Spent the last couple of days slowly adding ECW signals to my route. Once I had the first one in place and routing correctly it became easier to work backwards from that point adding additional ones. I also made a point of adding IDs to each signal to make it easier to check each route between them. There is one area in which a newly added signal, close to two which work fine, simply refuses to add any routes which is really frustrating. I’m hoping that spreading outwards gradually from those which work ok will eventually fix all of the problems. Sure enough the points nearly all switch as expected now.
