Hi I'm a casual player on series x looking to move to pc because of the availability of steam locomotives pc has but would like to know if train simulator classic has things like on screen distance/stop markers that appear in the optimal stopping position at the stations?
There are a few (really old) scenarios with exact stopping position (Horseshoe Curve) with an effect on career scoring, but otherwise no. Most routes have boards at the stations showing where you should stop with a specific train length. It cannot be easily implemented as a 4-car Class 444 is as long as a 5-car Class 450 or a 6-7 car Class 101, then you have trains with separate locos, again varying coach lengths, sometimes expecting the loco to slip forward so that coaches occupy the entirety of the platform (Settle), other times the exit signal is at the end of the platform, denying the slip, at least when it's at danger (red). Of course it could be done, but currently it's up to you to discover, remember and apply. Most players cannot be so precise anyway.
The ideal way is to stop with both your front and rear within the green station marker (F3 or F4 HUD), as long as the train is within the green line then all the doors will open when you press T Some stations require more precision than others because of the length of the green bar compared to the length of your train but as long as your front doesn't venture out of the green by any more than half your engine length then the stop should register. Sometimes if you're too far forward then the doors may not open on the first car of a Multiple Unit but the stop still registers as completed (tick in F1 Info screen) and the same for any passenger carriages left out at the rear.
