I wright this on this day with a heavy heart, for on this day like so many others have, I lost a very Good and dear friend, he was the kind of man who would give the shirt off his back and never ask or question. As some have given, He Gave all! He and His Crew saved many lives that day, and yet never stopped helping even the disabled, Bobby will be forever missed, he was more than just a PO. On this day he and his crew were on their way to train new recruits at the PAPD academy when the call for all emergency EMT, FDNY, personnel was put out to assist at the WTC, they turned around and ran in to assist, they did not have nor were they asked to but yet they did. Lieutenant Robert D. Cirri was the Executive Officer of the Police Academy. He was appointed to the Port Authority Police Department on June 6, 1986. Lieutenant Cirri was also a paramedic with Hackensack University Medical Center and a ham radio operator, monitoring the airwaves for Jersey Coastal Emergency Services. He served the department with pride and distinction for 15 years. Never Ever Forget WTC North Tower Collapse, at 10:28 AM Lt. Robert D Cirri Sr & his Rescue Crew, of 4 while attempting to save a handicapped woman, on oxygen with a stair chair. They made it to the lobby area, of the North Tower when it collapsed. They were all recovered, on February 9, 2002. PAPD Maurice (Moe) Barry has never been recovered to this date. From the PAPD website
When 9/11 happened, I was a school boy. We did not had any access to newspaper and television at that time. When I went school in the next morning, I heard everybody talking about this disaster.
It is amazing how much things have changed in the information age, even watching the videos of that day, they look like they were recorded on a disposable camera, even I was barely lucky enough to have TV the systems were still being built out. The smell of WTC took years to forget, I can still remember how everything looked days and weeks after. And when the remains were found of anyone, all the machinery stopped, it got so quiet you could hear a pin.
These towers were iconic in their simplicity. Though the hollow tube design was a mistake - only the floor trusses kept the whole thing together. Good old documentary on the construction of this icon
Never Did ever get to take my daughters there so they could see them sway. Yeah, things were very different when they were built.
I remember our neighbour and family friend (she lived in the other half of the house) came and we turned on TV and saw the footage, and we would watch the TV almost till late evening to see coverage... so much has changed since then...
