Certain scenarios require running around/shunting etc, sometimes when swapping ends of a loco the game throws a wobbler & says no! Your journey will end if you get in that seat!! Meaning you have to do from the wrong cab using external camera.
But they could if they wanted to do so, real life they would have a chap with a walkie talkie helping them, but this isn't real life it's a sim, just saying it would be good to have the option
Yeah the best 'realistic' workaround for me is placing the 3rd person camera on the rear buffer beam if there's a place for a shunter to stand. I also sometimes pick a point in the yard and 'direct' myself from there. Lets me play a bit like a shunter. That works for me, but I completely understand the desire to be able to change cabs without losing your service. Another reason why you should be able to change cabs: In the BR 143 you have to turn on passenger lights and destination boards from the cab car, this is easier when seated because otherwise the game only lets you flip the switches from weird angles. However, if you try to sit in the cab car you lose your service. Quite annoying, but so is the fact that you have to run to the cab car in the first place. There should however still be an option to change your service while on foot.
