The East Coast Line: Stockholm C (Cst) – Uppsala (U) The East Coast Line (Ostkustbanan) is one of Sweden’s busiest railway routes, and the section between Stockholm Central (Cst) and Uppsala (U) forms its southernmost part. It connects the capital with Uppsala, Sweden’s fourth-largest city, and serves as a vital corridor for commuter, regional, and long-distance trains heading north. Every red dot is a Station, the yellow dot is planned but wont come anytime soon so these wont be included. The stretch is about 66km long via Märsta (69km via Arlanda) and is fully double-tracked (Cst-skby has 4 tracks before the line splits). It accommodates SL commuter trains, regional services operated by Mälartåg and SJ, as well as high-speed and long-distance trains to destinations such as Sundsvall, Östersund, and Umeå. Along the way, important stops include Arlanda, where Arlanda Central Station provides a direct rail link to the airport. The line is heavily congested. Despite being double-tracked, its capacity is limited compared to the high demand. This makes the Stockholm–Uppsala section something of a bottleneck in Sweden’s rail network. For this reason, the government and regional authorities have long planned capacity expansions, most notably the construction of four tracks between Uppsala and Myrbacken(where the two lines joins together again). With four tracks, commuter services could be separated from regional and long-distance traffic, improving punctuality and allowing more trains to operate. I dont have any specific year this would be set in,2019-2024 = Uppsalapendeln run by Rc6 and ER1 exist 2025 and beyond=Run by Er1. If it would be set in 2003-2005 they could use DB BR 420 as it was imported into sweden while we waited for the new X60 to arrive, this would make a very cool era as it was a lot of different rolling stock and not as modern but its completely fine with whatever era DTG or a 3rd-party developer chooses. Arlandabanan The Arlanda Line is a 19-kilometer railway branch connecting the East Coast Line to Stockholm Arlanda Airport. It opened in 1999 and is unique in Sweden as a public–private partnership, built and operated by A-Train AB under a long-term concession. A southbound X40-3 arriving into the Airport. The line has three stations at the airport Arlanda South (Terminal 2–4) Arlanda North (Terminal 5) Arlanda Central (SkyCity) Only Arlanda express serves Arlanda sotuh and North Arlanda C with a X55 The Arlanda Express runs non-stop between Stockholm Central and the airport in 18 minutes, while regional and long-distance trains also stop at Arlanda Central, linking the airport to Uppsala, Gävle, Sundsvall, and beyond. Fully electrified and double-tracked, the Arlanda Line is a vital link in Sweden’s transport network, combining air and rail travel and it would feel hollow without it in this route. Safety systems Swedish ATC (Automatic Train Control) Sweden’s ATC is a national automatic train protection (ATP) system introduced in the 1980s. It uses coded track circuits and balises to transmit speed and signal data directly to the cab. The system supervises train speed continuously and calculates braking curves. If the driver does not act on restrictions, ATC automatically applies the brakes. It supports multiple speed codes up to 200 km/h and covers most of the national network. ATC is not interoperable internationally and is being gradually replaced by ERTMS, though it remains Sweden’s main safety system today. I will post the link to the signal system in the bottom. Rolling stock Arlanda express X3 Topspeed: 200km/h 7 built units from 1998-19998 by Alstom Run from Stockholm C-Arlanda north The old livery that got changed into a lighter color of yellow but according to me this is the most iconic version of the train. The Arlanda Express X3 is a modern high-speed train built by Bombardier, introduced in 1999 for the direct link between Stockholm Central Station and Arlanda Airport. The train can reach speeds of up to 200 km/h and covers the 40 km journey in just 18 minutes. Each train consists of four cars with comfortable seating, large luggage areas, and free Wi-Fi. The design is a Brittish Alstom Coradia but adapted for short, frequent airport service. The X3 runs entirely on renewable energy, making it both fast and environmentally friendly. SL X60 Topspeed: 160km/h Commutertrain in the stockholm region, will run Cst- U via Arlanda,Cst-Märsta,Cst-Upplands väsby. 129 built by Alstom (which of 71 X60, 12 X60A, 46 X60B) X60B with the beautiful Gamla stan skyline in the background. The X60 is a modern electric multiple unit (EMU) train used in the Stockholm commuter rail network, operated by SL (Storstockholms Lokaltrafik). Built by Alstom as part of the Coradia Nordic family, the X60 was first introduced in the mid-2000s to replace older rolling stock and improve capacity, comfort, and efficiency. Designed specifically for Scandinavian conditions, the train is well-suited to handle both cold winters and high passenger volumes. Each unit is fully low-floor, making it accessible for all travelers, including those with wheelchairs, strollers, or luggage. Similar variants such as X61 & X62 is used all around the country so it would be easy to use this model for other train sets in the future, the main difference between X60&X60A to X60B is that X60B got power outlets and a different deisgn on the chairs. It also wieghts 210tones, 4 tones more compared to the normal variants. Mälartåg Er1 Top speed: 200km/h 60 made, wich of 45 Mälartåg, 8 ex UL, now Mälartåg, 7 Tåg i Bergslagen by STADLER 2018-2023, 13 001-053 (Mälartåg), 054-060 (Tåg i Bergslagen) The Er1 is a modern double-decker train used in Sweden, mainly in the Mälardalen region. It started running in 2019 and is operated by Mälartåg. The train was built to carry many passengers at the same time, which is why it has two floors. The ER1 is a STADLER KISS designed for Swedish conditions, so it works well even during cold winters and snowy weather. Inside, it is bright and comfortable, with plenty of seating and space for luggage, strollers, and bikes. Because it is fast, reliable, and environmentally friendly, the ER1 has become an important part of regional travel in central Sweden. It connects cities like Stockholm, Västerås, Örebro, and Eskilstuna, being used by both Mälartåg & TIB. SJ AB (ex Statens Järnvägar) Option 1: SJ Rc6 & ex Rc5 Top speed: 160km/h built by ASEA between 1982-1986 (ex Rc5) 1985-1988 (Rc6) These locomotives drive all around sweden, from stockholm to Narvik, Luleå, Duved, Mora, Falun, Oslo, Malmö, Västerås, Göteborg, kalmar and karlstad, truly a beast! It was also used in the famous "Uppsalapendeln" (Uppsala-commuter) that sadly stoped running in December 2024. SJ IC train 95 driven by Rc6 1418 with 2 carriages towards Narvik arriving into Gällivare station. The Rc 5 & 6 got a rich history, 60 produced Rc5 (1323-1382) with a top speed of 135 km/h and where mainly used for cargo, but that quickly changed as the need for more high speed passenger services where demanded so they got switched to Rc6 and their top speed was increased to 160 km/h between 1992-1995. The 40 produced Rc6 (1383-1422) where the last Rc locomotives, ending an Era that started back in 1967 with Rc1 1007, 366 locos where produces over 21 years. They had a impresive history of multiple color schemes over the years such as in Orange, light blue, dark blue (Blue X), gray, red & white and at last black. They haul the night, regional and IC trains all around the country. In the early 2000's SJ upgraded two Rc6 for speeds up to 180km/h, these test drive units are known as Rc7, they got painted in a dark blue livery along with 7 other loco's and some carriages. The test was a fail because the wagons were simply to expensive to uppgrade to a max speed of 180km/h and the project got scraped in 2004, Rc7 1421 & 1422 got downgraded to their first form as a Rc6. Fun fact for the american's: AEM-7 is inspired by the Rc, Sweden sent a Rc4 (1166) over to the US in the 1970's The loco was know as X995 or mighty mouse,Amtrak was impressed and decided to buy a similar but more upgraded version of the Rc loco's. Option 2: SJ X55 SJ X55 (SJ 3000) Top speed: 200km/h but easily upgraded to 250 km/h 20 sets built by bombardier between 2010 to 2013 This train is a part of the Regina family that has been around since late 1990's but with shorter train sets. With four carriages and 245 seats, the train offers WiFi, power outlets, a bistro, and comfortable seating for longer journeys. Its quick acceleration and braking make it ideal for routes with frequent stops, such as between Stockholm and Sundsvall. Today, the X55 is a key part of SJ’s fleet, serving medium- and long-distance routes across Sweden and complementing the faster X2000 trains. The train often drive between Malmö-Göteborg, Stockholm-Oslo/ Kil / Umeå / Östersund / Sundsvall and in some cases even to Malmö. This EMU hasn't had many different color schemes over the years, the few things that have happened are that the SJ logos disappeared on the sides and that the cover on the lights was changed from black to gray but then back to black again. Option 3: SJ X40 Top speed: 200km/h but can reach 230km/h 48 (15 of them being 2 carriages) sets built by Alstom between 2004-2008 The X40 is an EMU primarily used for IC-services on Stockholm-Göteborg via Västerås and Linköping-Gävle/Ljusdal . Introduced by SJ in 2007 it was designed to provide a comfortable and efficient travel experience for passengers on medium to long distances. The train consists of two to three connected carriages, all equipped with seated areas, air conditioning, and power outlets. It is often critizesed of its minimmal diffrence between 1 and 2 class, there is simply no diffrence except that u get access to SJ lounge in Stockholm or Gothenburg. Now some of u may be upset that i didnt include SJ's flagship, the X2000 and that is simply because it only runs Cst-Hgl and once a week up to Sundsvall and most of the time it gets cancelled so a X55 needs to step in. Note! i do know that linces will be the hard part, i have no idea how hard it is so please reply to this message if u know, and yes i know that this is way to much trains but if more swedish routes gets added in the future u can drive it on this route, im mainly talking about SJ and mälartåg. because X3 doesnt drive anywhere else and X60 only in Stockholm region. bonus pic--> The Uppsalapendeln in 1995 SJ was in the middle of painting its fleet in a Blue/Black livery from the iconic brown wagons, this resulted in a brown/blue fleet among SJ's trains. Notice the carrige with a cab in it. They got made so that the Rc didnt have to make a detour to get to the other side of the train, only 3 where ever built and all of them for the uppsalapendel. They had the name AF7X but it got changed to AFM7, now they sit in Tomteboda waiting for a new owner or possibly the scrapyard. Swedish signaling https://share.google/vySNNZuMWgKIDyBdd Few of the trains on this line Cabride from Uppsala via Märsta to Stockholm in a Rc6 on the Uppsalapendeln Great info about this line but in swedish tho https://www.jarnvag.net/banguide/stockholm-uppsala if the links dont work, copy them and put it into ur browser.
Oh i forgot some things thing, this route wouldnt be capable of gen 8 consoles as i think that TSW should move forward in development, for this route to be more realistic DTG needs to improve the snowy weathers. This route will also have a little friegth, with the DB BR 185.3 running cst-rosersberg and back. U could also include some depo runs between Hgl-Cst with a Br193 as the SJ Euronight or snälltåget,snälltåget could also go up to uppsala 2 times a week and down again as it does in the summer on its way to Storlien from Malmö
