Hi, I’m curious to know what other sims people play in this community. You can’t say TSC, that doesn’t count I’ll start. I just started playing a game called Taxi Life - A city driving simulator the other day on the PS5. Other sims I enjoy or have played recently include: •Police Simulator - Patrol officers •Power wash simulator •Farming simulator •Tram simulator
Flight Simulator 2020, Power Wash Simulator, Farming Simulator, Bus Simulator and construction Simulator. Maybe city skylines counts too but I'm not sure
Ah yes I forgot to include bus simulator, another fab sim. I played bus sim 21 half to death a few months ago, but got lost on the career mode and couldn’t make any progress so I stopped playing it. I should’ve resorted to YouTube for guidance, but I never bothered. Flight sim is pretty cool, I just don’t have a good enough PC to run it, tried it on the Series X and I couldn’t adjust to the 30fps cap. I see city skylines in the sale a lot, but never tried it or know much about it personally.
Non railway, I would say Snowrunner although with the dodgy truck physics more game than sim. ETS2 and ATS though since the sound change to FMod the default trucks sound awful without mods. Did have MSFS installed but TBH a bit much for my potato PC and the HD footprint is daunting. Still keep FSX installed mainly for a bimble with classic jetliners which is something else MSFS doesn’t really do well, more focused on GA and modern one handle (ha!) planes.
Bus Simulator 21, Flight Simulator 2020 and Powerwash Simulator. I would also say Snowrunner but these last few months the multiplayer component of that game has been completely broken and as that's a game I like to play with friends, that's a big problem for me.
I have played many other simulation Games. But my favorites are: The Bus, ATS, Gas Station Simulator, Thief Simulator and PS: PO.
Nice. I remember trying the other game to that (Mudrunner). I got stuck in the mud half a dozen times and my vehicle kept tipping over. All in all, it was a painful experience for me. So I knocked it on the head Yes, same story as you with MSFS. Potato PC! I can’t enjoy it on the Series X either as it’s capped at 30fps. I would like to upgrade one day, but it’s an expensive prospect with the cost of living increasing each year. If I was going to upgrade, I would want the best though.
Been enjoying American Truck Simulator again recently, the newer maps are a joy to drive thru, there is alot more trucks to choose from (Which are all free DLC's) , and California is in the middle of its rework project. Not to mention the details of local landmarks are such a joy to look at, something I wish DTG did more of on their TSW maps. (On top of very little scenery issues) Also dabbed into the VR beta for a bit, while a bit heavy on my PC, it really is a nice experience to add.
Well, the obvious ones of little surprise here are Zusi, MSTS/OR, Diesel Railcar Sim and Tram Sim. Apart from those, I also quite enjoy the Powerwash Sim and the Train Station Renovation one. The latter one is really janky and the completely nonsensical mix of Railway infrastructure is something you have to accept but it’s an interesting change of pace to slowly restore a train station. If only it wasn’t capped at 30fps on PS5…
Yes that’s the problem with consoles unfortunately. I’m hoping the PS5 Pro can breathe new life in performance for us all. I hate having to choose between resolution or performance favoured, with or without ray tracing enabled when playing a game.
It's not a console or performance limitation per se. It's a PS4 title that for some reason never got uncapped on PS5.
I’m curious to know why you would play the PS4 version though, when they have a PS5 version running at 60fps?
Railroader just got a big update, bringing the game ever closer to leaving Early Access: a new 4-4-0, a new 2-10-2, bringing the total 'starter' locomotives to 20 steam locomotives and 2 Diesels new customization options on many pieces of rolling stock, improved vegetation, telegraph poles and code lines, continuous improvement to the business model with new industries and destinations plus there are some awesome mods already available to mod the map, the models and the operations: Steam Store page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1683150/Railroader/ Latest patch notes: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1683150/view/4128184830668244182?snr=1_5_9_ Lively Discord: https://discord.com/channels/795878618697433097/
TSC and farming sim. Others I play which I am unsure if they are classed as sims or not are Forza Horizon 4, Forza Motorsport, Cities Skylines and FIFA.
I recently resurrected my MSTS collection through OpenRails, which has been a huge blast from the past. I would spend hours scrolling through Train-Sim and UKTrainsim looking for freeware, it's good to see the file libraries for both are still around. I also used to be big into Trainz back in the Trainz Classics, TS2010 days, but I haven't had the same motivation to get back into it with the current editions. Not being able to use the old content from that time period with the new software just puts a damper in things for me. For non-rail sims I also play the Forza games, SnowRunner, Construction Simulator, Farming Simulator (although not often, since I'm around it all day at work, lol) and Cities Skylines (plus spiritual predecessor SimCity 4 when I'm feeling nostalgic). In addition to sims, I thoroughly enjoy real time strategy games. I mainly play Star Wars RTS' Force Commander, Galactic Battlegrounds, and Empire at War (and the awesome collection of mods for EaW), but also enjoy Command & Conquer Generals, RimWorld, Galactic Civilization IV, and the Star Trek Armada mod for Sins of a Solar Empire. And I will get super nostalgic from time to time and break out Lego Loco, Lego Island, 3D Ultra Lionel Train Town, 3D Ultra RC Racers, etc. Some day I want to build a Windows XP desktop just to play those old games with true immersion.
Rather than start a new thread and risk the wrath of the mods for preaching about another sim, just to mention Run 8 got another update. However even better news, they just released a MP15 switcher pack, something long overdue and will be an instant purchase for me once I get on the main PC later. Five different liveries for $20. It will be nice to do some switching on the Bakersfield area industrial spurs and branches not having to take a road engine with me.
Schnauz likes them. I've bought them and are just learning the new functions and operations, including the different transmission modes for switching and road service, since this is a multi-purpose locomotive.
New Railroader update and new rolling stock reviewed: plus a bunch of new mods to add your own lettering styles and nicknames to your locomotives, map extensions though in-game .json patching changes to the business model and lots more, since in the Early Access, the simulation is quite open still.
I really enjoyed 3DTS' MSTS content and have given some thought into Run8, especially their Albany area route as that's my local rail line. How does Run8 behave with a Raildriver?
Raildriver is supported natively, out of the box, no drivers needed. Obviously, RD needs calibration, and since the throttle is notched in the game, a gentle hand on the lever and small adjustment to make the notch stick (due to the mechanical linkage having some slack and electronics drifting) https://raildriver.com/support/run8.php has a link to the template
I have it but not played it that much, preferring the big SoCal network, or the Florida/Georgia routes.
I have all collected all the routes, locomotives and rolling stock over the years, since like most train simulations and model railroads, it is sort of a costly hobby. In contrast to TSW, I do not regret a single purchase. I mostly play the SoCal network, using the various World Saves and the Otto dispatcher. There are lots of YT videos with sessions available that give you an idea of the diverse networks: for instance, and there are lots more Selkirk has a working hump yard, unique to Run8: which makes use of the car tags to automatically sort the cars according to their destinations
I know they only simulate the Hudson and Rensselaer Amtrak stations; in your opinion would it be worth it if I prefer Amtrak ops?
Well grabbed the MP15’s and they are very nice. I see there has been some comment on one of the YT reviews about the sounds, but to my ear they are okay and a little different from the GM road diesels. The lead developer (the great John Greenstone), did respond they had actually done a site visit to a short line in Tacoma to record the loco sounds so they are sourced from the real thing and not aliased or synthesised from the existing sound sets.
The only other ‘Simulator’. I play is Gas Station Simulator. Incredibly repetitive and sometimes quite annoying, but for some reason, I keep going back to it. Got it in a sale and definitely got decent value out of it.
Just dl Train Planet beta after watching the video, link to video in post above, done by Squirrel. Will see how it does.
First impressions, seems like TSC in most ways. Did the introduction to the BR 218. When moving along the cab was rocking and rolling in a good imitation of the real thing. There is guys, a working Ebula in the cab.
For me the other sim games I have played I remember are -Police Sim Patrol Officer -Sims -Farming Simulator -Fernbus -Microsoft Flight Sim -Bus Sim 21 possibly count as simulator games -Cities Skylines -Tropico -Snow Runner -Technically GTA V, as I role played a truck driver/taxi driver/bus driver a lot some years ago.
I also have MS Flight sims FS9 and FSX plus Xplane 11 & 12. Recently installed Silent Hunter Submarine Sim, I have them all on disk but they won't play on Windows10 so just got a steam version. In the past I had UK and US Truck Sim including the steering wheel and pedals but gave them to my grandson. I just got a ship sim but it is limited to what you can do and where you go. I've had lots of other hobbies including photography, computers, stamp collecting, fishing, hiking and camping, coin collecting, tropical and cold water fish, Radio DXing, CB radio, Bird Keeping (Avery). Col.
I forgot about MS Flight Simulator! Shows you how often I play lol. I'm okay taking off, but when it comes time to land forget about it. Granted I play on Xbox, and I'm sure I'd be better with a flight rig, but my landings need serious work. I have a hard time slowing down to land; if I lower my nose to lose altitude I gain air speed, but if I pitch up to slow down I tend to gain altitude or risk stalling if I lower my engine speed. It's hard for me to wrap my brain around.
I have to pick something kinda old, that being Pro Train Perfect 2. It was basically Trainz 2010 but with german safety systems. I personally like the fact that the Routes are loooong ( like 200km+ in some cases) and you still can pick up the game and it's DLC over at 3DZUG (although its kinda expensive).
Farming Simulator is still the gold standard for sims in my book, once you get hooked the gameplay is virtually limitless. Just beware of pale imitators, there are many. Non-TSW train sims: Railfan (PS3) - FMV-based console game with three interesting routes. Kinda fun but impossible to play unless your PS3 is still hooked up (it's also super-expensive on the secondary market when last I checked). Journey to Kyoto (PS4): Another FMV console game, somewhat fun but super-easy and overpriced for the content. Not to mention the FMV is really choppy and low-res, there are YouTube videos which give better effect. Densha De GO! (PS4) - Okay, not a true sim, but man is this game a blast. I have more detailed write-ups on my site: https://www.heyimbill.com/j-trains.html
My other sims list: PC American Truck Sim Euro Truck Sim 2 Powerwash simulator Train Simulator Classic I also played FS2004 100 years of flight back in the day (the install key no longer works) Console Gran Turismo 7 (PS5) Forza Motorsport 6 (XB1) Farming Simulator (unsure of which version) (PS4/5) * Not actually played this yet
Correction: Railfan was not developed by the same team as Densha de GO, though it had a licensing deal with them. Railfan was developed by Ongakukan (the same devs behind the JR East Simulator available worldwide on Steam). Densha de GO was developed by arcade giant Taito. I have also written a write-up on Japanese train sims for the Tallyhocorner site: https://tallyhocorner.com/2023/10/an-introduction-to-japanese-train-simulators/
Train Simulator Classic SimRail Railroader OpenRails X-Plane 12 Euro / American Truck Simulator Reentry - An Orbital Simulator - highly detailed recreation of the US space program, Mercury, Gemini and Apollo. Almost all circuitry including programming the Apollo computer is accurately simulated. Includes detailed checklists and a mission editor. One-man project by an ex-Microsoft employee. Orbiter 2016 (excellent freeware, loads of free addons available. Teaches you orbital and space flight mechanics, dock your Shuttle to the ISS and see how hard it actually is due to the way orbital "free fall" works. There's no "direct line of travel" in space flight...Steep learning curve, but has tutorials. Learn how simple it is to create a circular orbit using two timed engine burns... Whole solar system is simulated accurately (though relativistic effects not taken into account, which is not really relevant here. Land on Venus just to find out there's no way to ever escape from there due to its massive atmospheric pressure and density... not even talking about the hellish temperatures.) http://orbit.medphys.ucl.ac.uk/ Orbiter 2016: Earth Orbit / orbiting Saturn's Titan moon - it was very tough to get close enough without doing detailed precalculations, so its gravity is strong enough to get into orbit and you don't lose it There'a nice sound addon which includes original Shuttle CapCom radio featuring Julie Payette. (Base game comes without sound and a separate exe which you can use your preferred rendering engine on.)
also played a lot of Train Fever, ran epic lines there ... Transport Fever 2 kicks ass, but I struggle with it, cos I cant construct proper rail lines (y know, so they can run more than one consist at a time) with passing loops, signalling, etc
Here are a couple of my favorites, both train related and not: Trainz Railroad Simulator 2022 Derail Valley Tram Sim Transport Fever 2 OpenTTD Railroad Tycoon 2 BeamNG.Drive American Truck Simulator Assetto Corsa Forza Motorsport If we are counting simcade games, Forza Horizon and NFS Pro Street are also really good As for arcade games, I love some of the older NFS games like Underground 1 and 2, Most Wanted, and Carbon. And of course there are a few oddballs I like such as Minecraft and Rocket League.
Hate to even admit it, but I’m really enjoying Supermarket Simulator at the moment. It’s so simple and repetitive and some of the NPC’s are more ridiculous than some of DTGs. But it’s got some sort of addictive quality that makes it perfect to wind down at the end of the day.
TSC, Bus Sim and MSFS for me. Not strictly simulators, but also Cities: Skylines, and Transport Fever. The former on Xbox, and the latter on PC.
The most interesting part of this thread for me is the multiple mentions of Powerwash Simulator. Not knowing anything at all about it, I have to ask, what's the appeal there?
