So I’ve been driving the Blackpool version of the 47 and the brakes are being applied automatically with me putting the brakes handle into any positions and it’s starting to get really frustrating and also noticed on freight services on Blackpool Branches and that is using the PBO 47’s

You need to hold the brakes in overcharge.

The same issue (certainly on that route - i haven't driven these locos on other routes recently) has been happening with the 31, 08 and 20, not sure about other locos

Actually, the bug is in the overcharge function itself. The system is supposed to return the brake pipe pressure down to the normal release pressure very slowly, over the course of several minutes, which recalibrates the control-reservoir pressures in all the distributor valves in the train. The 47 does it too quickly, so it becomes a brake application instead, as the control reservoirs retain the higher pressure.

The actual workaround is to never use the Release/Overcharge position on the brake handle. Set it only to Running. Trust me, it works that way.

This bug was fixed a long time ago. At one time the overcharged brakes on the Class 47 couldn't be recovered from very easily but now it is prototypical for the type. It just takes time and patience or the reset physics button.

If it was fixed, why does the problem occur on this loco but not on others, eg. the Class 20s on the Preston Docker? I can do a normal overcharge cycle on those, and it is restored slowly enough to operate the distributors correctly. On the 47, it is much too fast.
