This started out, because the system is under warranty, as just replacing the C Drive for something larger. I picked up a Samsung 990 pro to clone the C Drive onto. Actually, got a pretty good deal on getting everything done. But after it got bench tested, the system wouldn't boot up and they found that the motherboard needs to get replaced.

So, I figured while the system is getting torn down to replace the motherboard I'd also upgrade the CPU to the socket AM5 9800x3D. Currently still have the PNY Nvidia 4080 which has 16 GB of VRAM and every so often the system would have an 'out of video memory' error and we'd have to reboot the entire system.

I figured, while I'm at, while the system is torn down, upgrade the GPU as well, but, at the price point of $900 US the ASRock AMD 7900xtx with 24GB of VRAM at Newegg is looking a little bit better.

I did plenty of research on the 50 series cards long before they were released, see the links below. The lower end series cards, I won't touch. I won't take it if it was given to me. I would have rather had a 4090 but at $2,500 US that's just crazy, but yet somebody bought one this morning, the last one actually at my local Micro Center.

Yes, I can go on eBay and get a second hand 4090, but because of the warranty I have on the computer and all the components, it wouldn't cover the 4090 or anything for that matter I purchase off of eBay or anywhere else. Actually, I would have to buy a separate warranty for the GPU if I want Micro Centers tech support.

Even if I was to contemplate the higher end 50 series like 80 or 90, that's still $2,000 US and in all honesty, I don't have confidence in the 50 series cards. Even though several reviews gave it a passing grade, I personally think a 4090 is better.

Bottom line is, how well will games in general, granted many games don't have ray tracing, as well as TSW 4 & 5 on the AMD GPU run?

I'm asking for games in general but mostly TSW 4 & 5. I haven't had an AMD GPU in roughly 20 years, at least. Also, with the NVIDIA GPUs, I've been running DDU [Display Driver Uninstaller] and NV Clean install to install the NVIDIA GPU drivers. It provides a clean install with driver physics. It doesn't install all the other junk that NIVIDA driver install does.

I can do the same thing with AMD as well, I'll have to do research if I go that route, but I'd appreciate any insights, tips, ideas or thoughts on 7900xtx GPU and how it runs TSW.

PS. currently relegated to a potato Lenovo.
